David Harbour Joins Rambo Prequel in Major Role

Exciting news for the upcoming Rambo prequel! David Harbour, known for his role in Stranger Things, has been cast as a key character from the original Rambo movies.

David Harbour will be taking on the role of Major Trautman, John Rambo’s commanding officer. The character was previously played by the late Richard Crenna in the first three Rambo films. This new movie will also feature Noah Centineo as a young John Rambo, the iconic commando famously played by Sylvester Stallone in five films. Harbour’s casting was announced after filming wrapped up in Thailand in March.

Sylvester Stallone Is Executive Producing John Rambo

Sylvester Stallone is an executive producer on the project, alongside Anthony and Joe Russo, Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier, and Amanda Presmyk. The producers are Kevin King Templeton from Templeton Media, Les Weldon and Jonathan Yunger from Millennium Media, and Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco from AGBO. Jalmari Helander, who directed Sisu and Sisu: Road to Revenge, is directing the film, based on a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.

David Harbour is taking on the role of John Rambo after finishing his popular run as Hopper in the Netflix series Stranger Things. He recently appeared in the HBO miniseries DTF St. Louis, which premiered last month. This week at CinemaCon, footage was shown of his return as Red Guardian in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, highlighting one of his most anticipated future projects. He’s also reprising his role as a particularly tough Santa Claus in the upcoming sequel, Violent Night 2.

The Rambo film series started in 1982 with the movie First Blood, which was based on the novel by David Morrell. Stallone announced his return to the world of Rambo with a new project focusing on the character’s origins. He described Rambo as a symbol of strength, perseverance, and the lasting impact of war, adding that the character holds a special place in the hearts of many. This new installment will delve into Rambo’s backstory, showing audiences the events that shaped him before he became a legend, and Stallone will serve as an executive producer.

John Rambo does not yet have a set premiere date.
