Universal and Focus Features generated excitement at CinemaCon 2026 by unveiling a first look at the new installment. As expected, the mischievous yellow characters are causing trouble again, but this time they’re joined by some famous actors.
I was so excited to see the new trailer! It looks like the Minions are heading to the Wild West, searching for a new villain to work for. But instead of finding a typical bad guy, it seems like they’re causing total mayhem – and it looks hilarious! This feels like a really fun, fresh take on the franchise.
The scene starts like an old Western movie, with cowboys on horses chasing a runaway. The Minions try to keep up in a little cart, but end up accidentally stopping the marshals who are after him. The chase moves to a fast-moving train, where the cowboy jumps on top, with the police and Minions close behind. True to form, the Minions quickly cause chaos. One disconnects a train car to halt the police, while others commandeer the engine and start driving. A plane arrives to help the cowboy, dropping a ladder that both he and the Minions grab, leading to a crash landing on a bright, sunny street in Los Angeles.
Okay, so picture this: a massive train chase, total mayhem in the city, and these Minions just loving every second of it, gleefully blasting the train’s horn as they nearly cause accidents. It’s absolutely wild – we’re talking buildings crumbling as they pursue this train across rooftops and through a factory. Just when you think it can’t get any more chaotic, everything stops. Turns out, it’s all a movie set, and the Minions have completely wrecked the shot! The director, brilliantly voiced by Christoph Waltz – yes, that Christoph Waltz – is understandably frustrated. It’s a clever reveal and a hilarious bit of meta-humor, hinting at the kind of playful chaos we can expect from the new film.
The movie then shows Minions James and Henry getting a tour of a busy movie studio. They’re fascinated by everything they see, like a boat being filmed and a scene with a royal throne. Things get interesting when they’re put in knight costumes for a medieval battle. The director tells them to act dramatically, and asks if they’re ready to be stars, which scares them. But then one Minion grabs a huge hammer and starts genuinely fighting, and the others join in, turning the fake battle into real chaos as they begin defeating the actors.
Instead of re-shooting the scene, Waltz playfully declared it “perfect,” and the Minions happily celebrated their unexpected achievement. The movie will also feature Jeff Bridges, known for The Big Lebowski, as the voice of the villain, confirmed by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri. Joining Waltz and Bridges are Allison Janney, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, and Trey Parker, who previously played the villain Balthazar Bratt in Despicable Me 3.
Okay, as a big fan of these Minions movies, I gotta say this latest one really surprised me! They’ve kept the goofy, physical comedy we all love, but they’ve added this really clever layer where the Minions are running around inside Hollywood, which is a fun twist. Plus, they’ve brought in a bunch of recognizable voices, and honestly, it just makes the whole thing even more hilarious. I think fans are going to absolutely eat this one up!
Minions & Monsters is set to hit theaters July 1, 2026.
