Sony gives amazing filming update on The Legend of Zelda at CinemaCon
Sony announced at CinemaCon that filming for The Legend of Zelda movie is complete. Although no clips or photos were revealed, this means the movie is now entering the post-production phase. It’s currently scheduled for release on May 7, 2027 (according to IGN).
The actors who will play Zelda and Link have been announced. Bo Bragason will be Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link. Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo shared the news and expressed his excitement to see them portray these famous characters in the movie.
The film boasts a talented creative team, led by director Wes Ball and writer Derek Connolly. Producer Miyamoto is joined by Avi Arad, who previously worked at Marvel Studios. Originally revealed in 2023, the movie is a collaboration financially supported by both Nintendo and Sony.
In a recent interview, Ball discussed his vision for the project, saying he wants to deliver a film that truly resonates with audiences and fulfills their hopes. He emphasized the importance of the franchise to its fans and his commitment to making a substantial, high-quality movie – one that offers a genuine escape and feels both authentic and entertaining, blending seriousness with a sense of fun and wonder.
The Legend of Zelda is a hugely popular and well-known video game series. Starting in 1986, it has released many games, all centered around exploring vast worlds, solving clever puzzles, and enjoying compelling stories. Players adore the series’ immersive worlds, iconic characters, and thrilling sense of adventure, leading to long-standing requests for a movie version.
The movie has the potential to be great if it maintains a realistic and believable feel, which the director has suggested is the plan. Now that filming has finished and a release date is set, bringing the world of Hyrule to the big screen is finally within reach.
