The exciting K-drama series returned to Netflix at the beginning of the month with its second season, three years after it first premiered in 2023. Season 2 is already a hit, quickly climbing the streaming charts after its release.
Netflix’s Bloodhounds is quickly becoming a hit around the world, currently ranking among the top 10 most-watched TV shows in numerous countries, according to FlixPatrol. Fans are loving the new season, giving it an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While there aren’t enough critic reviews yet to calculate an overall score, early reviews are all positive. The first season of the show currently holds an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Bloodhounds Returns With Higher Stakes in Season 2
The show begins with two boxers teaming up to dismantle a dangerous loan shark ring. The second season expands the scope, following them as they enter a high-stakes, international underground boxing world. The cast includes Woo Do-hwan as Kim Gun-woo, Lee Sang-yi as Hong Woo-jin, Jung Ji-hoon as Im Baek-jeong, Choi Siwon as Hong Min-beom, and Hwang Chan-sung as Yoon Tae-geom.
Season 2 of Bloodhounds finds Gun-woo (Woo Do-hwan) and Woo-jin (Lee Sang-yi) taking on a new challenge: a dangerous, worldwide underground boxing league controlled by greed and brutality. According to Netflix, this follows their success in taking down a criminal loan shark operation. Woo Do-hwan, known for his roles in Mr. Plankton and The King: Eternal Monarch, reprises his role as Gun-woo, a boxer driven by a strong sense of justice.
Lee Sang-yi returns as Woo-jin, Gun-woo’s courageous and loyal friend and boxing partner. The two will team up again to expose a corrupt underground boxing league. Jung Ji-hoon makes his villain debut as Baek-jeong, who will stop at nothing to pull Gun-woo and Woo-jin into this dangerous world.
The Cast Trained Even Harder for Season 2
Woo Do-hwan explained that he gained 13 kilograms to physically show his character’s growth after three years of intense training for the new season. He also bulked up for Season 1, but this time added an extra 5 kilograms. He emphasized a more structured training approach this time around. While he only had a month to get in shape as a boxer for Season 1, he had about three months for Season 2. His diet consisted of four meals a day, eaten consistently until bedtime. During the summer, his rigorous schedule included nighttime runs, morning sessions at Seoul Action School, lunchtime gym visits, and another run in the evening.
With the popular series Cobra Kai ending in 2025 after six seasons, Netflix viewers looking for another action-packed show might find it in Bloodhounds. Cobra Kai, which originally started on YouTube before becoming a Netflix exclusive, was a long-time favorite. While there’s been talk of a potential reboot, nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
