Jon Hamm recently revealed in an interview why he didn’t end up playing Superman or Mr. Sinister. He was considered for the role of Superman in Superman Returns and even auditioned, but the part ultimately went to Brandon Routh.

Jon Hamm, known for his role in Mad Men, recently appeared on Josh Horowitz’s podcast where he discussed playing both Superman and Mr. Sinister.

During a conversation on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Jon Hamm revealed he tried out for the part of Superman in the 2006 film Superman Returns. He explained that he was told he was too old for the role.

Jon Hamm shared that he pitched an idea for the new Superman movie – imagining the character with a similar sense of humor to Christopher Reeve’s portrayal. While the producers liked the idea, they ended up going in that direction with future Superman projects, ultimately leading them to cast Brandon Routh instead of Hamm.

I recently spoke with the actor from ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’ about a role he almost landed – Mr. Sinister in ‘The New Mutants’. He explained that it was a done deal, or so it seemed, but fell through due to some behind-the-scenes issues. Apparently, there was a change in ownership – the studio was sold, and Disney ended up buying it, which derailed the whole thing.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last June, Jon Hamm shared that he actually prefers playing villains over heroes like Superman. He explained that he’s usually cast as flawed characters, admitting, “Superman can be a little dull.” He quickly added that he hopes the new Superman, David Corenswet, is great.
