Dan Levy Was Considering ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Sequel Before Catherine O’Hara’s Death

Over six seasons and 80 episodes, Schitt’s Creek became a hugely popular comedy. It first aired on Canadian television (CBC) and later gained even more fans in the United States and around the world. Created by and starring Eugene and Dan Levy, the show follows the wealthy Rose family after they lose their fortune and are forced to move to a small town they once bought as a joke—Schitt’s Creek. The series humorously depicts their adjustment to a simpler life and their interactions with the town’s residents as they learn and grow.

The cast and crew of the show were deeply saddened when Catherine O’Hara passed away in January from a blood clot. O’Hara was best known for her hilarious and memorable role as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek, where she played a delightfully eccentric former soap opera star. She was a highly respected and beloved actress, and her death was a significant loss for the entertainment industry. The Schitt’s Creek team was particularly affected, and it even led to changes in their future plans.

Dan Levy, the creator of Schitt’s Creek, recently revisited the show’s set with CBS Sunday Morning to discuss its popularity. He shared that he had considered bringing the series back, but those plans were abandoned after Catherine O’Hara, who played a central role, passed away in early 2025. When asked if a revival was still possible, Levy stated definitively that it wouldn’t happen without O’Hara.

He shared how emotional it was to be back on set, saying it brought back many memories of Catherine. He also enthusiastically praised her comedic talent, particularly her knack for creating memes, which was surprising given she hadn’t grown up with the internet.

I have so many memories of Catherine. That’s what matters most – holding onto those memories. And the video montage of her life was amazing. It’s funny, considering she wasn’t really into the internet, she totally understood how to create and appreciate memes.

Catherine O’Hara had a long and impressive career beyond her beloved role in Schitt’s Creek. She first became well-known on Second City Television, and then starred in popular films like the Home Alone movies as Kate McCallister and Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice films as Delia Deetz. Throughout her career, she received significant praise, including two Emmy Awards and ten nominations for her work in shows such as The Last of Us and The Studio. Though both Schitt’s Creek and O’Hara are now gone, her work and the show’s impact will be remembered for many years to come.

Schitt’s Creek is streaming on Hulu and HBO Max.
