Prime Video’s La Oficina, a Mexican adaptation of the popular series, premiered on March 13th just last month. Due to its quick success, the show has now been officially renewed.
Good news for fans! Prime Video has ordered a second season of La Oficina. The Spanish-language sitcom has been a big success in Latin America and other regions, and Javiera Balmaceda, a head of original programming at Amazon MGM Studios, confirmed this popularity led to the renewal. Currently, the series isn’t available to stream in the United States.
La Oficina Was a Major Hit in Latin America
Balmaceda explained that La Oficina connected with viewers right away and continued to do so. It rapidly became the most popular show on Prime Video in their region, and importantly, it’s maintained that popularity – people are still finding and discussing it long after it first came out.
Gaz Alazraki, one of the show’s creators, explained that this was his first time adapting an existing, well-known story. Unlike his previous show, Club de Cuervos, which was an original concept, this project involved a massive and popular franchise, adding significant pressure. He aimed to bring a fresh perspective to the story, and the audience reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. Many were hesitant to revisit such a cherished property, but they fully embraced the new take once they saw it.
Alazraki will be directing and executive producing the second season of La Oficina. Filming will once again take place in the State of Mexico. According to Balmaceda, the writers are expanding on what viewers loved most about the first season, focusing even more on the characters and the elements that really connected with the audience.
The Office’s Newest Remake Is Getting a Season 2
Inspired by the original UK series, La Oficina is a funny show about the everyday lives of workers at a soap factory in Mexico. Fernando Bonilla plays Jerónimo Ponce III, their somewhat eccentric regional manager. The show also stars Fabrizio Santini, Elena del Rio, Edgar Villa, Armando Espitia, Paola Flores, Areli Gonzalez, Alexa Zuart, Quetzalli Cortés, and Juan Carlos Medellín.
Alazraki explained the show’s success, noting that Latin American workplaces often have a unique energy due to many family-owned businesses and less strict legal oversight, fostering a different work culture. While previous versions of the show accurately portrayed typical office environments, this Latin American adaptation—especially being on a platform like Amazon—allowed for greater creative freedom and a fresh take not usually seen in shows from the US or UK.
La Oficina is streaming on Prime Video in Latin America.
