But honestly, the audience reaction tells a different story. People loved it! The ‘Popcornmeter’ – that’s basically how much regular moviegoers enjoyed it – was a whopping 89%. It seems like this film really hit the spot for what fans wanted.

The audience response to the film better shows how well it performed in theaters worldwide. It earned over $100 million more than the previous Godzilla vs. Kong film did in 2021, leading many to call it a complete success – a case where viewers enjoyed it more than critics did.

There’s an increasing gap between what movie critics and general audiences enjoy in big-budget films. What’s Next for Godzilla and King Kong?

Following the huge success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Godzilla and Kong will be back in theaters for another movie on March 26, 2027. This will be the third time these two iconic monsters have appeared together in the MonsterVerse series.

Godzilla and King Kong each appear in the series, though they don’t encounter each other. The show takes place before the events of Godzilla vs. Kong, and both monsters threaten the human characters at different points. New episodes of Season 2 are currently being released every Friday until May 1st.

Godzilla will appear in a new film separate from the MonsterVerse series. Following the unexpected hit Godzilla Minus One in 2023, another Godzilla movie is scheduled for release on November 6, 2026. This film will be a standalone story, not connected to the existing MonsterVerse timeline.
