93% Rotten Tomatoes Movie Disney Removed From Disney+ ‘Togo’ Now Streaming Free

When Disney+ first launched, it announced several movies and shows that would be exclusive to the service to generate buzz – as if having all of Disney’s content wasn’t enough! Films like the live-action Lady and the Tramp and the holiday movie Noelle were available on launch day, November 12, 2019, alongside the premiere of The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars TV series. However, like with all streaming platforms, some of these exclusive titles don’t stay forever. For example, Togo, released in 2019, was removed from Disney+ in 2024, but is now available to watch for free on Tubi.

It’s not unusual for streaming services to remove movies, often because they aren’t popular. But the decision to remove Togo is surprising. The film has very positive reviews – 93% from critics and even 95% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. Since both critics and audiences clearly enjoyed it, it’s unclear why the streaming service decided to take it down.

What Is ‘Togo’ About?

Although Togo is based on a real-life event, it’s unusual for a recent Disney film because it wasn’t a continuation of an existing story, a remake, or adapted from a well-known franchise. Disney explains the movie is:

As a movie buff, I recently learned about this incredible true story set in Nome, Alaska. When a really nasty epidemic hit, the only medicine that could save everyone was over 600 miles away! They needed someone to get it there fast, and all eyes turned to Leonhard Seppala, a legendary dogsled racer. But here’s the thing – he chose Togo, an older, smaller Siberian husky, to lead the team. It wasn’t an obvious pick, but Seppala’s wife had always believed in Togo – even when he was a playful, trouble-making puppy who could escape anything. Seppala himself knew Togo had an unwavering loyalty and a never-give-up attitude, and he figured, honestly, Togo was their only real shot at making this impossible journey.

The film Togo features Christopher Heyerdahl, Richard Dormer, Michael Greyeyes, Michael McElhatton, and Michael Gaston, and was directed by Ericson Core.

Why Was ‘Togo’ Removed From Disney+?

Streaming services are incredibly convenient, offering instant access to a huge library of shows and movies. However, this ease of access can also make exclusive content feel less valuable, even if it’s well-made. Ultimately, companies like Disney, despite their wealth, are businesses that must prioritize profits when making decisions.

While Togo surprisingly gained a lot of positive attention as a Disney+ original, it’s not the only title Disney+ has removed from its platform. Several other films that premiered on the service, including Cheaper by the Dozen, Timmy Failure, Flora & Ulysses, and The One and Only Ivan, are no longer available. Unfortunately, this also affects TV shows. Series like Big Shot, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Willow, The Mysterious Benedict Society, and Just Beyond were once promoted as exciting originals but have since been canceled and removed entirely.

It’s especially disappointing when these movies and shows are made only for streaming, because physical copies – like DVDs or Blu-rays – often include extra features showing how they were made. Fortunately, you can currently watch Togo for free online, and some other titles are available to rent or buy digitally.
