ABC surprised viewers of 9-1-1 with a new development regarding Bobby at a particularly shocking moment. The show has faced uncertainty since Peter Krause left last year, and fans have strongly debated the decision to kill off his character, Bobby Nash. Some viewers still believe Bobby might be alive, and it appears this storyline is building towards a surprising reveal.
According to showrunner Tim Minear, Bobby’s death was intended to feel realistic. However, this decision sparked criticism, given that 9-1-1 often asks viewers to accept unbelievable scenarios. Although the discussion continues, the show has kept Bobby’s memory alive through frequent references. But in 9-1-1 season 9, episode 15, “Pick Your Poison,” a surprising detail about the circumstances of his death is revealed – and it comes at a particularly difficult moment.
9-1-1 Season 9 Celebrates Bobby’s Death Anniversary Ahead Of Schedule
The TV show 9-1-1 usually follows the actual calendar in its storylines, which is why the episode focusing on Eddie, “Día de los Muertos,” aired in early November 2025. That’s why it was unexpected when “Pick Your Poison” revealed it was the one-year anniversary of Bobby’s death, as that episode aired in late March. The two-part episode “Contagion,” which was the last appearance of the character Krause, was shown in mid-April.
The episode “Pick Your Poison” used the anniversary of Bobby’s death to shed light on Buck’s history with substance abuse. It effectively showed how Buck was still dealing with his grief and drew connections between his struggles and those of his father figure, Bobby. Fortunately, it seems Buck has overcome his addiction with the help of his friends and family.
Detective Hooks Debuts During Bobby’s Death Anniversary Week (They Look Alike)
The emotional connection between Buck’s storyline and Bobby’s death felt right, but the secondary plot in 9-1-1 season 9, episode 15, sparked some debate among viewers. While the 118 handled their usual calls, Athena took on a strange case involving a man specifically requesting her assistance. Although the case wasn’t particularly captivating on its own, it introduced Detective Ben Hooks, played by Josh Stamberg, who looks remarkably like Bobby. It was a bit unsettling seeing him work with Athena, knowing he wasn’t the same character, due to the strong resemblance.
Detective Hooks’ introduction in the 9-1-1 episode “Pick Your Poison” is just the beginning of his story. Actor Stamberg returned as the character the following week in “Where There’s Smoke,” and this time, Hooks interacted with the entire 118 team while they were responding to a challenging fire and a migrant crisis. While it’s still unclear exactly how Detective Hooks will be used throughout the series, he currently appears more untrustworthy than helpful.
