2026’s Supergirl Movie Reveals First Official Poster For Its Main Villain

New posters for the upcoming Supergirl movie showcase the film’s main villain. DC Studios is basing the story on the comic book Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and that includes bringing the comic’s villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills (played by Matthias Schoenaerts), into the movie. The posters reveal a redesigned look for Krem, which is quite different from his appearance in the comics.

Now that Supergirl is coming out on June 26th, the movie’s marketing is in high gear. After the second trailer dropped, DC Studios released individual posters, including one of Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem. The poster shows off Krem’s costume and makeup, and captures his menacing personality – he’s even pictured licking his axe!

The photo captures Krem’s entire outfit, showcasing his unique, tribal-style armor made with bone-like plates, as well as his axe with four prongs.

The newest trailer for Supergirl showed more of the villain, Krem, and hinted at the extent of his wickedness.

Viewers were surprised by the new look of Krem of the Yellow Hills in the first trailer for Supergirl. Unlike the comic books, where he’s portrayed as a red-haired man, the film version has been transformed into a monstrous figure with extensive scars and artificial skin. This dramatic redesign is intended to clearly establish Krem as the story’s villain.

Krem is a pirate and assassin in the comics, part of a group called the Brigands. He’s the one who originally wronged Ruthye and Kara, causing them to pursue him throughout the galaxy seeking revenge.

You know, what I find really interesting about Krem is that he’s a villain who relies purely on skill and training. So many DC baddies have superpowers, but Krem? He’s just a really dangerous, highly capable fighter. It’s a refreshing change of pace, honestly.

The villain’s arrows have a rare and deadly poison on their tips, and unfortunately, some of it gets stuck in Krypto during the movie.

The new solo poster for Krem continues a tradition of DC movie villains getting their own promotional images. The most recent example was the group of villains featured in James Gunn’s Superman, with Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor leading the way. Luthor will be back in the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow.

María Gabriela de Faría played Angela Spica, also known as the Engineer, and teamed up with Luthor as part of his villainous group. In the DCU movie, her character was updated to include the ability to use nanotechnology, letting her transform her body into different forms and create weapons.

Frank Grillo played Rick Flag Sr. in Superman, taking over the role from Amanda Waller as the leader of ARGUS. He’s also appeared in other DC Universe projects, including Creature Commandos and Season 2 of Peacemaker.

Even before the recent reboot of the DC Universe, DC Comics often showcased its villains. A good example of this was Michael Shannon’s portrayal of Zod in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, who was prominent enough to have his own promotional poster.

Krem of the Yellow Hills will appear in the upcoming Supergirl movie, starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Jason Momoa as Lobo, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film is scheduled for release in theaters on June 26th.

What Kind of DCU Villain Will Krem of the Yellow Hills Be?

Throughout its portrayal in Supergirl, Krem of the Yellow Hills has been established as a brutal, mentally unstable, and heartless villain who appears and behaves like a monster.

In a scene with Kara, Ruthye reveals that Krem killed her family – a detail consistent with the comics, where Krem stabbed Ruthye’s father after he didn’t laugh at one of his jokes. Later, Krem tells Kara that he likes seeing her cry, further showing his enjoyment of others’ suffering.

Krem of the Yellow Hills stands apart from villains like Lex Luthor from Superman, who was driven by madness and intellect, or Rick Flag Sr. from Peacemaker Season 2, who sought redemption while fueled by revenge. Krem is a straightforward pirate and outlaw who revels in chaos and using force to control others. This makes him a compelling opponent for Supergirl, as she’s still defining her heroic identity and establishing her own moral boundaries.
