Pokémon is a hugely popular anime that has stayed beloved for decades, largely because of its incredible variety of creatures. While the franchise has created many successful games, movies, and products, the anime series remains the most popular way for fans to follow Ash Ketchum and Pikachu on their journey to catch every Pokémon!
I’ve watched the anime and seen so many Pokémon appear over the years – hundreds, actually! A lot of longtime fans probably think Ash’s Pikachu is the most powerful, and it’s true Pikachu is strong. But I’ve noticed several Pokémon that have really shown even greater strength. While we don’t see these incredibly powerful Pokémon all the time, they definitely stand out and set a high standard for power when they do appear.
Zekrom Is a Legendary Pokémon With Fierce Electric Powers
Zekrom is a strong, dragon-like Pokémon that controls electricity. It looks like a black, dragon-shaped figure with large, intimidating wings, and it often appears with a flash of blue lightning. Zekrom has made a few appearances in the Pokémon anime, starting with the first episode of Pokémon: Best Wishes, where it shocked Team Rocket while they were trying to steal Pikachu.
Zekrom’s attack was incredibly strong, completely disabling Pikachu’s powers. It’s a Pokémon you definitely wouldn’t want to encounter! While it doesn’t appear often, Zekrom is referenced throughout the series. Because it’s so rare, we haven’t seen its full potential very often, and it’s often underestimated.
Jirachi Awakens Every Thousand Years to Reshape Reality
Jirachi is a Pokémon that wakes up every thousand years for seven days to recharge from the energy of a special comet. While awake, it can grant a single wish written on the tags attached to its head. This ability makes Jirachi very powerful, and it can also use telekinesis to move objects and shield itself and others from harm. Because of its kind personality and amazing powers, Jirachi is a popular and impressive Pokémon.
Jirachi looks fragile, but it’s incredibly powerful and can grant wishes, making it a highly desired Pokémon. Its power is exceptional, even among other legendary Pokémon. Though it only wakes up to grant wishes once every thousand years, there doesn’t seem to be a limit to what those wishes can achieve.
Mega Charizard X is a Classic Pokémon Gone Supernova
Mega Charizard X first appeared in the Pokémon the Series: XY anime during the story arc set in the Kalos region. It’s the result of Ash’s rival, Alain, Mega Evolving his Charizard, giving it a powerful new look. Mega Charizard X is incredibly strong, with blazing flames and enhanced physical abilities, making it a formidable opponent for any Pokémon.
Mega Charizard X is known for its incredibly powerful Blast Burn attack, which can quickly defeat opponents. It’s also remarkably tough and never gives up, often turning the tide of battle. Though not a Legendary Pokémon, its strength makes it a formidable opponent to anyone.
The Unown’s Mysterious Reality-Altering Power Makes it Terrifying
In the movie Pokémon 3: Spell of the Unown, the mysterious Pokémon Unown are central to the story. They use their combined psychic powers to build and control an illusory world for a young girl named Molly Hale. This world is created from Molly’s own hidden wishes and desires, and the Unown’s abilities are shown as both amazing and a little frightening, highlighting how strange and unknown these Pokémon truly are.
In the Pokémon animated series, Unown are presented as old, enigmatic creatures linked to ancient ruins and the hidden powers within them. They communicate using symbols that look like letters, which adds to their mysterious nature. Though not particularly powerful on their own, their combined strength and historical significance make them a fascinating part of the Pokémon world. Their special move, Hidden Power, is unpredictable because its type and strength can change with each use, making it a versatile attack.
Entei is Almost Literally a Dream Come True
Entei first appeared in the movie Pokémon 3: Spell of the Unown, where it was presented as a strong and impressive Pokémon. In the film, the Unown create Entei to grant the wishes of a young girl named Molly Hale, and it acts as her protector. The movie highlights Entei’s incredible power and speed, especially its Fire-type attacks, during battles with Ash and his Pokémon friends. But what really stood out was Entei’s deep loyalty to Molly – a strong bond that couldn’t be broken.
Entei is a powerful and important Pokémon, closely linked to the legendary Raikou and Suicune. It’s known for incredibly strong attacks, like Sacred Fire, which lets it unleash devastating flames. In the animated series, Entei is portrayed as noble and fiercely protective of those it cares for, showcasing its strong and admirable character.
Suicune Could Be a Natural Disaster if it Weren’t Dedicated to World-Saving
Suicune is a legendary Pokémon known for its elegance and purity, often shown as a protector of rivers and lakes. In the movie Pokémon 4Ever: Celebi – Voice of the Forest, Suicune is key to cleaning up polluted water and saving the forest. Its ability to purify water highlights its role as an environmental guardian, and it’s often seen as a symbol of hope and renewal in the anime. Though hard to find, Suicune is incredibly powerful and dedicated to protecting those in danger.
Suicune is a fast and graceful Pokémon in battle, able to move quickly and easily endure strong attacks. Its powerful Hydro Pump move sends a massive blast of water at opponents, highlighting its strength. Overall, Suicune represents purity and strength, standing as a resilient figure in the Pokémon universe.
Ho-Oh Has Been a Mysterious Entity in the Anime Since the Beginning
Ho-Oh is unique among legendary Pokémon because it was featured in the very first episode of the Pokémon animated series, which originally aired in 1997. While its appearance was short, it showed that Ash had a pure heart – Ho-Oh only reveals itself to those who are truly kind.
Ho-Oh is unique among Pokémon for its ability to bring others back to life and heal them. It can not only revive any Pokémon, but also unleash a powerful fire attack called Sacred Fire. This Pokémon resembles a phoenix, and its tail leaves a burning trail wherever it goes.
Lugia Lives In Solitude to Protect the World from Its Power
I’ve heard about Lugia, this incredible Pokémon known as the master of the Legendary Bird trio. It’s a Psychic and Flying type, and honestly, it’s massive – it looks like a dragon! I first saw it in the second Pokémon movie, and it makes sense why it prefers to live deep underwater, away from everything. It’s just that powerful. They say even a single flap of its wings can whip up huge storms – you definitely wouldn’t want to mess with it.
Lugia, a generally kind sea guardian, possesses incredible power over the ocean and will fiercely defend sea creatures from harm. Beyond controlling water, Lugia can also read minds and communicate with people, demonstrating a high level of intelligence similar to Mewtwo.
Celebi Is a Mythical Pokémon With the Ability to Travel Through Time
Though smaller than Lugia, Celebi is a powerful mythical Pokémon with psychic and grass abilities, rivaling those of other legendary Pokémon. It first appears in the movie Pokémon 4Ever, where it escapes a hunter who wants to control it.
Celebi is unique among Pokémon for its ability to travel through time, rivaled only by a time deity. While not physically strong or a powerful attacker, Celebi makes up for this with its time-traveling skills, allowing it to visit the past, present, and future. It can even bring others along on its journeys! This small, sprite-like Pokémon also possesses healing abilities, can help plants grow, and is capable of flight.
Zacian & Zamazenta Are Powerful, Age-Old Heroes
The artwork for Zacian and Zamazenta, two powerful Pokémon from Pokémon Sword and Shield, is inspired by the stories of King Arthur. While each Pokémon is incredibly strong on its own, they’re most impressive when they work together. Just like in the games and animated series, these Pokémon teamed up to defeat a dangerous event called the “Darkest Day” and save the Galar region.
A terrifying alien creature caused all the Pokémon in the region to become wildly enraged. To save everyone, the wolf Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta, known for their swords and shields, had to work together. As seen in the Pokémon Journeys anime, they were needed once more when Leon, Ash, and Goh couldn’t defeat the creature themselves. They hoped Zacian and Zamazenta could repeat their legendary feat from thousands of years prior.
