Both versions of Netflix’s Daredevil center on Matt Murdock’s battles with Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin. Now that the Marvel series has concluded its second season, viewers are beginning to ask if other Daredevil villains should get their chance to shine. The Kingpin has been the main antagonist for all five seasons so far.
Look, I think Vincent D’Onofrio is absolutely killing it as Kingpin. He’s honestly one of the most frightening villains we’ve seen in live-action. But as a fan, I’m starting to worry that constantly revisiting the fight between Daredevil and Fisk is holding things back. It feels like it’s making Matt’s story a little predictable in the MCU, and I really think introducing some new villains could shake things up and give everything a fresh start. We need to see other bad guys get their moment!
Jonathan Powers, known as the Jester, used to be an actor but turned to villainy because of his massive ego. He’s incredibly skilled with swords, in peak physical condition, and exceptionally intelligent. Many fans want to see this somewhat quirky villain appear in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, and some wonder if he could be the central villain in a future season of a show.
Clowns are often frightening, and jesters can be just as unsettling. While jesters might not seem as threatening in comic books, their playful trickster persona could easily be developed into a genuinely terrifying villain, one capable of causing serious trouble in Daredevil‘s neighborhood. With a combination of intelligence and overconfidence, the Jester has the potential to become Daredevil’s most formidable foe in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I remember when I first heard about Carl Burbank – what a story! He wasn’t always this incredible weapon-wielding mercenary. Believe it or not, he used to be a priest! Then he signed up with the CIA, and that’s where things got really wild. They turned him into a cyborg – seriously, he can change his skin into any weapon you can imagine. That’s when he became known as Bushwacker, and started working as a mercenary for hire. It’s a crazy transformation, but that’s what makes him so awesome!
Daredevil and Bushwacker’s paths collided when the wife of Bushwacker reached out to Matt Murdock, believing her husband had lost his mind. This presented Daredevil with a difficult choice: stop the criminal or try to help him – a classic moral conflict the Marvel Cinematic Universe could explore. The fact that Bushwacker was once a priest adds another layer of complexity.
Carlos LaMuerto, also known as Black Tarantula, comes from a family with a tradition of passing down the title and abilities through intense training starting in childhood. While he began as a Spider-Man ally, Black Tarantula later teamed up with Daredevil as a vigilante. He often disagreed with Daredevil’s tendency to show mercy.
Eventually, Black Tarantula and Daredevil went their separate ways, but Black Tarantula became increasingly violent in his methods. This pushed Daredevil to confront him, as he’d clearly become a villain. After years battling the straightforward evil of Kingpin, Daredevil realized Black Tarantula presented a more complex moral challenge – an antagonist who wasn’t simply evil, but operated in a gray area.
There are two characters named Gladiator in the comics. Melvin Potter is one of them, and it’s important not to confuse him with the much more powerful Kallark, who also goes by Gladiator. Unlike Kallark, Melvin Potter doesn’t have any superpowers. However, he’s an exceptionally skilled fighter, in peak physical condition, and wears metal armor, making him a formidable opponent. Many comic book fans are already familiar with this Gladiator.
Though he previously appeared in Netflix’s Daredevil as a bystander, costume designer Potter won Matt Murdock’s confidence. However, he later falls in with a dangerous crowd. If Potter returned as a true villain, it would carry significant emotional weight. While the Kingpin is already deeply corrupt, Matt would blame himself for not guiding Potter towards a better path.
Typhoid Mary, also called Bloody Mary or Mary Alice, is a villain with powerful mental abilities. She can use her mind to move objects, create fire, or even put people to sleep. However, she has a condition called dissociative identity disorder, meaning she has multiple personalities, and some of them are much more aggressive than others. When she transforms into Mutant Zero, her powers become even stronger.
The character known as Typhoid Mary is already part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having appeared in the Iron Fist series on Netflix, played by Alice Eve. However, her role was quite small. She’d be a great addition as a major villain for the Daredevil show, and her comic book history offers a clever way to keep Kingpin involved. Because in the comics, she marries Kingpin, he wouldn’t need to be removed from the show – he’d simply gain a powerful new partner.
Philip Sterling, known as the Exterminator, came from a wealthy and intelligent background, but he chose a life of crime. He created a device called a “time displacer ray” for his heists, but Daredevil intervened. This confrontation made them bitter enemies, and the ray’s energy unexpectedly altered Sterling’s body, granting him superpowers and trapping him partially between dimensions.
The Exterminator, also known as Death-Stalker, is a visually striking villain with powers based on radioactivity. Many fans regret that he hasn’t appeared in recent stories, and he’d be a great choice to introduce a more fantastical, less realistic storyline for Daredevil if Marvel Studios decides to go in that direction.
Daredevil has faced four different versions of Mister Fear, all of whom pose a threat because of their unique powers. Mister Fear specializes in manipulating people’s emotions. For example, Zoltan Drago uses a fear-inducing gas that causes hallucinations, while another version, Alan Fagan, injects a similar substance directly into his victims’ bloodstreams.
Larry Cranston, also known as Mister Fear, is a master manipulator, and this version is a lawyer, allowing him to challenge Matt Murdock both in and out of combat. Across different versions, Mister Fear would be a strong choice as a future primary antagonist in Daredevil: Born Again because he exploits Matt’s religious anxieties. To defeat him, Daredevil would need to overcome his own personal fears.
Ikari, sometimes called the opposite of Daredevil, shares a similar power: a heightened senses system that lets him anticipate his opponents’ actions a split second before they happen. Unlike Daredevil, though, Ikari isn’t blind, a fact Daredevil discovered the hard way during a fight when he underestimated Ikari’s abilities.
Daredevil is such a skilled fighter that his only real match is someone with his same abilities. Ikari possesses those same skills and a similar inner fury, though he uses them for different purposes. In the upcoming third season of Daredevil: Born Again, Ikari could be the one to finally challenge and potentially defeat Matt Murdock in a fight. A live-action battle between them would be as incredible as any of the show’s already amazing fight scenes.
Elektra Natchios is currently in a relationship with Matt, but she used to be one of Daredevil’s biggest enemies. She previously appeared in the Netflix series Daredevil, played by Elodie Yung, and their complex relationship from the comics was featured in the show. They dated, she turned against him, and ultimately gave her life to save him.
Even though Elektra seemingly died in the show, comic book readers know she often returns. Plus, she frequently switches between being an ally and an enemy. There’s still much to explore with her and Daredevil, and a season dedicated to their complicated, on-again, off-again relationship would add significant emotional depth to the series.
The Hand is a centuries-old secret society of ninja assassins who use magic and work with criminals to maintain their grip on New York City. Originally established in the 1500s, they worship Krahllak, a powerful demon also known as the Beast of the Hand. Alongside Wilson Fisk (the Kingpin), they are Daredevil’s most dangerous enemies, as their insidious methods of control deeply conflict with Matt Murdock’s values.
Given their popularity and previous appearance in the Netflix Marvel shows, fans are eager to see this group return to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. They’re slated to appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie, which naturally leads to the idea of them becoming future enemies for Daredevil. Many also hope the Spider-Man film will help set up the storyline for the next season of Daredevil: Born Again.
