10 Biggest Avengers: Doomsday Characters Missing From All 4 Trailers

As a huge Marvel fan, I was blown away by the cast of Avengers: Doomsday – it’s honestly one of the biggest they’ve ever assembled! What really surprised me, though, was that some of the key players weren’t in the initial trailers. And it’s never happened before that Marvel released four trailers so far in advance – almost a year before the movie even hits theaters! It’s definitely building up the hype.

I’m so excited about the new footage! It’s really focusing on bringing back some of our favorite Marvel heroes. We’ve already seen Captain America (Chris Evans) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in the first teasers, and then the Doomsday trailer gave us a glimpse of the X-Men – Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Cyclops (James Marsden) – which was amazing!

The trailer also highlighted the Wakandan and Fantastic Four characters, including Shuri, M’Baku, Namor, and The Thing. Despite showcasing many characters and teams, the initial marketing for Avengers: Doomsday surprisingly left out some key cast members who have been confirmed to appear.

Shang-Chi, a relatively new but popular character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wasn’t featured in the trailers for the upcoming movie. This film will be his first on-screen appearance since his solo debut in 2021, and many fans (including me!) are eagerly anticipating his return. While it’s good to know he’s involved, it would have been great to see him in the trailer footage.

His exclusion actually fits with Marvel’s overall plan. He didn’t naturally appear in any of the preview clips released so far. While they might have considered ways to include him, Marvel intentionally went in a different direction. Although it’s a letdown, it will make seeing Shang-Chi in a future trailer even more thrilling.

9. Mystique (Rebecca Romijn)

Rebecca Romijn is returning to the role of Mystique, the blue shapeshifting mutant, in Doomsday. It’s been twenty years since she last played the character, and fans are excited to see her reprise the role, particularly after her important parts in the first three X-Men movies. Many are hoping she’ll finally wear a costume that’s true to Mystique’s comic book appearance.

Marvel easily could have featured her in the promotion for Doomsday. Since the X-Men are getting their own trailer, she’d fit right in with characters like Professor X, Magneto, and Cyclops. Leaving her out—along with other important returning mutants—is unexpected, even if it means keeping some surprises for later.

8. Ant-Man (Paul Rudd)

Originally, Ant-Man was expected to play a major role in what was first planned as Avengers 5: The Kang Dynasty, but has now been retitled Doomsday. However, despite his fight with Kang in the Quantum Realm, Scott Lang hasn’t appeared at all in any of the trailers for the movie.

It’s possible he could appear unnoticed due to his ability to shrink, but given the locations used for the trailers and the fact that Marvel didn’t hint at his return in the trailer text, that seems unlikely. We’ll just have to wait and see how Ant-Man’s powers affect the movie.

7. Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh)

It’s surprising that Yelena Belova, a standout character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga, isn’t featured in the trailers for Doomsday. Florence Pugh has made Yelena, a highly skilled spy, very popular with fans, and she’s now a key member of the new Thunderbolts team. The post-credits scene in Thunderbolts hinted at their important role in what’s coming next in the MCU.

It’s odd that Yelena and her team weren’t featured in the first promotional materials. Considering how carefully Marvel has developed her character, this feels like a missed opportunity. This could have been a key moment to establish Yelena as a major player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

6. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie)

Now that Sam Wilson is officially the MCU’s Captain America, it’s disappointing he wasn’t featured in the trailer reveal for Doomsday. The announcement of Steve Rogers’ return has taken the spotlight, even though the teaser made it clear that Chris Evans will be playing Steve Rogers, not Captain America.

It’s really unexpected that he’s missing, especially since Marvel hasn’t released a trailer showcasing the new Avengers team. A trailer focused on the team would have definitely featured its leader. Hopefully, Sam Wilson will get more attention in future promotional content.

5. Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby)

Sue Storm, along with one other character, has previously encountered Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Seeing him take her son, Franklin Richards, highlights how crucial she will be to the upcoming Doomsday storyline. Despite being expected to have a significant part, she wasn’t featured in the first four trailers.

It’s likely Sue Storm is simply just out of view in the last shot. Since Ben Grimm is meeting M’Baku in the desert, the rest of the Fantastic Four could be present but unseen. However, even if that’s true, it’s strange that such a key member like Sue isn’t shown, especially considering Marvel had the opportunity to tease her and Namor’s long-awaited encounter.

4. Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan)

Bucky is a long-standing and beloved character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s expected to play a significant role in the upcoming Doomsday event with the New Avengers. Despite his close friendship with Steve Rogers (who did get featured in promotional trailers), Bucky wasn’t shown at all in the four teaser trailers released so far.

Like Yelena’s lack of involvement, his absence seems to stem from a surprising lack of focus on the New Avengers team as a whole. It’s currently unclear how, or if, they’ll play a role in the movie, but a teaser featuring Bucky and his teammates could have clarified things. It’s puzzling why Marvel would overlook such a major character, and this might lead to speculation that Bucky will meet a definitive end.

3. Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal)

Even though Pedro Pascal has only played Reed Richards in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a short time, he’s expected to be a central figure in the upcoming Doomsday story. That makes it surprising that Marvel hasn’t highlighted his involvement or used his popularity to build excitement. It was a chance to establish Reed Richards as a determined character who will do anything to rescue his son, protect the multiverse, and defeat Doom.

It’s puzzling why Mr. Fantastic wasn’t included in the trailers. It would have been simpler to feature him as a representative of the Fantastic Four than to create a special effects shot of The Thing. A scene with him and Shuri would have been a great way to showcase two of Marvel’s smartest characters, but Marvel might be holding that moment for a later trailer.

2. Loki (Tom Hiddleston)

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has become a key figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to his Disney+ series. Now responsible for maintaining the stability of the entire multiverse from his post at the Citadel at the End of Time, he’s undoubtedly aware of the growing threat of incursions that could destroy it all. Including him in a trailer hinting at a catastrophic event would have been a smart way to highlight his crucial role.

The marketing campaign is surprisingly excluding a key character—one of the most popular figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s no coincidence the franchise keeps returning to him. Including Loki in even a quick shot during the ‘Doomsday’ trailer would have made any of the four trailers much more exciting, particularly if it showed a reunion with his brother, Thor.

1. Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.)

When Marvel announced they’d be releasing four trailers, most fans expected they would all lead to the reveal of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. People were eager to see him in the role, whether through a dedicated trailer or even just a quick glimpse – they wanted an official look at the former Iron Man actor as his new Marvel character.

It’s surprising this didn’t happen sooner, especially since the movie’s title references RDJ’s villain. You’d expect him to have a major role. However, the marketing team has done a good job of building anticipation for his character, even without showing him much. As the release date for Avengers: Doomsday approaches and more trailers are released, it seems Marvel is intentionally holding back the full reveal for later.
