Fans of Tom Cruise’s movies have some disappointing news: the film series will be leaving Netflix in May, surprisingly soon after becoming available on the streaming service.
Several Mission: Impossible movies will no longer be available on Netflix after May 1st. This includes the original 1996 film, as well as Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), Mission: Impossible 3 (2006), Ghost Protocol (2011), and Rogue Nation (2015). Fans of the series may be disappointed, especially since these films were only recently added to Netflix alongside Dead Reckoning (2023) on April 1st.
5 Recently Added Mission: Impossible Movies Leave Netflix Weeks After Being Added
Netflix subscribers have limited time left to enjoy the first few Mission: Impossible movies. However, Paramount+ subscribers are still able to watch them, and likely will be for the foreseeable future. Since Paramount produces the films and owns the streaming service, fans will need to use Paramount+ to watch the series going forward.
The Mission: Impossible film series began in 1996 and has earned more than $4.7 billion worldwide across eight movies. Tom Cruise plays Ethan Hunt, an agent for the Impossible Missions Force (IMF), tackling incredibly risky and important assignments for a top-secret government organization.
Although Tom Cruise is the main star, the Mission: Impossible movies have always included a strong supporting cast, including Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg. It’s also worth noting that Cruise has been a producer on every one of the eight films.
The latest film in the series, The Final Reckoning, premiered in May 2025 and immediately became a box office success, earning $79 million during its opening weekend – a new record for the franchise. While it ultimately grossed over $598 million worldwide, its high production cost of $300–400 million meant that…
The Best Mission: Impossible Film Still Isn’t on Netflix
As a big fan of the Mission: Impossible films, I’ve noticed that while Netflix currently has the first five movies available, they’re still missing a major one! Mission: Impossible – Fallout from 2018 was a huge hit – it actually made over $791 million worldwide, which is by far the most successful film in the whole series.
Despite some recent variation in quality, the first five Mission: Impossible films remain classics, with the original launching a hugely successful franchise. Critics and audiences have generally loved the series, as evidenced by Rotten Tomatoes scores – seven out of eight movies have been rated ‘Fresh’, though the 2000 installment only achieved a 58% approval rating. Fallout is the highest-rated film with 98%, closely followed by Rogue Nation (94%) and Ghost Protocol (93%), both of which are currently available on Netflix.
The first five Mission: Impossible films are available to stream on Netflix through May 1.
