Zootopia 3 Possibility Discussed by Director After 10-Year Gap for Sequel

While it took a decade for to get a sequel, a third movie may be coming sooner than fans think.

The eagerly awaited sequel follows new police officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they stumble upon a major mystery when Gary De’Snake causes chaos in the bustling city of Zootopia. To solve the case, Judy and Nick go undercover in unfamiliar areas, pushing their developing partnership to its limits. Though plans for a third movie are still uncertain, fans are incredibly eager for a return to the world of Zootopia.

Tatiana Hulledner from ScreenRant recently interviewed director Byron Howard and producer Yvett Merino during an event celebrating the release of Zootopia 2 on home video. They discussed the enthusiastic reaction to the film and early talks about potentially making a third Zootopia movie.

It’s been ten years since our last film, and we made Encanto with Yvett and Jared in between. That was a wonderful chance to work on a musical! But we’ve really noticed how much people still love Zootopia over the past year and a half. We’ve heard the calls for a sequel, and we definitely want to explore that possibility.

Zootopia 2 also saw the return of , who reprised her role as Gazelle.

I’m a huge Shakira fan, and when I started working on the film, I immediately wanted her to be involved – I really wanted to meet her! Luckily, she enjoyed working on the project and became a big supporter. So, when it was time to get her involved again, we were thrilled, and she was happy to return.

Let me tell you, Shakira absolutely killed it in this one! Her character, Gizelle, wasn’t just a cameo – she was a key player. She genuinely helped Judy and her crew, but with a twist – she was siding with the predators! And the best part? We got to hear some brand new music from Shakira woven right into the story. It really added another layer to everything.

We really wanted to give Yvett Merino’s character a meaningful role in helping Judy on her journey, and we were thrilled to have her involved. It was especially wonderful that her sons, who voice characters in the film, were old enough to have lines this time around. It made the recording process a fantastic experience.

Another member of the Zootopia cast hoping to reprise their role in a potential third movie is Jenny Slate. Speaking with ScreenRant on Wednesday, Slate expressed her enthusiasm to play either Bellwether or Dawn Bellwether again if asked.

Yvette Nicole Brown is hoping to appear in a future installment of Zootopia, and she’s aiming for a role as a bird. She enjoyed playing Otter and the Baroness, but heard the next movie might take place in the bird district, and she’d love to be a part of that.

Brown mentioned she’d love to voice a parrot, but she’s open to playing any character just to return to the world of Zootopia.

Yvette Nicole Brown jokingly said she’d be up for anything – even pretending to be a parrot, making a squawking sound. She thinks being a parrot would be fun because she could imitate others. Then, addressing someone named Jared directly, she pleaded with him to give her a job, looking straight into the camera and asking him to call her. She also called out to Byron.
