‘Zootopia 2’ Post-Credits Easter Egg May Have Confirmed ‘Zootopia 3’ Details

Beware, this article contains spoilers for Zootopia 2! The movie may have already hinted at the plot of a potential third film, even before the credits started. Zootopia 2, released nine years after the original Zootopia, was a big hit over Thanksgiving weekend, and a third movie seems very likely, though it hasn’t been officially announced. While the post-credits scene offers a clue to a long-standing fan question about the original film (going all the way back to 2016), the first indication of the sequel’s direction actually appears much earlier in Zootopia 2.

A sharp-eyed viewer spotted a hidden detail in the movie Zootopia: the password for the character Paul Moldebrandt (voiced by Josh Gad) is written on a post-it note as “P@Rt3izFr&Brd…”. Although the end is cut off, fans believe the full password is “P@Rt3izFr&BrdZr2”, which cleverly translates to “Part 3 is for real, and birds are too.” This detail is later confirmed in a post-credits scene in Zootopia 2.

‘Zootopia 2’s Post-Credits Scene Hints at What is to Come

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

The end of Zootopia 2 includes a short scene after the credits where Judy Hopps places the tape recorder Nick Wilde fixed for her on a shelf. A feather then falls near it, hinting that birds will be featured in a potential Zootopia 3. Fans have pointed out that the first Zootopia didn’t include reptiles or birds—reptiles were even a key part of Zootopia 2’s story—and now it looks like birds will be the focus of the next film.

Both Zootopia 2 and Moana 2 end with extra scenes after the credits that suggest future storylines and hint at a possible third film, though Disney hasn’t officially confirmed either one yet. However, Moana 2 earned over $1 billion worldwide, and Zootopia 2 made $556 million in its opening weekend globally, making more sequels very likely. While Disney rarely released sequels to its animated films in the past – The Rescuers Down Under being a notable exception – these franchises, like Frozen, Moana, and Zootopia, have become incredibly important to Disney’s success in recent years.

It’s still uncertain when Zootopia 3 will be released, considering animated movies typically take three to four years to create. The earliest possible release date would be 2029. Interestingly, there was a nine-year gap between the first Zootopia and its sequel, which the movie itself jokes about – Nick quips that Judy will have to wait another ten years, hinting that Zootopia 3 might not arrive until 2034 or 2035. Disney already has Hex scheduled for November 2026 and Frozen 3 for November 2027. It’s unclear what they’ll release in 2028 – it could be Frozen 4, Moana 3, or a brand new film. Fans will likely have to be patient if they’re hoping to see Zootopia 3.
