James Gunn is now closely associated with the DC Extended Universe, having directed and produced multiple films within it. Now, though, he’s making a significant shift.
Zack Snyder, known for his big-budget action films, appears to be trying something different with his next project. He’s announced “The Last Photograph,” a more personal film he’s been wanting to make for years. Discussing Film reports that the movie will feature familiar faces he’s worked with before, and the first images have just been released.
According to the report, Zack Snyder’s new film, The Last Photograph, centers on a man’s desperate search for his niece and nephew after their parents are murdered. He relies on a photographer who witnessed the killers for assistance.
Judging by the first two images released, the director appears to be prioritizing compelling characters and storytelling over flashy visuals in this new film. Plus, rumors suggest Hans Zimmer is composing the soundtrack.
The project was first described as a war drama and includes two actors – Stuart Martin and Fra Fee – who also appeared in Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon. Martin and Fee played the characters Den and Balisarius, and Martin had previously worked with Snyder on other films.
Filming began in late August, taking the crew to various international locations like Colombia, Iceland, and the United States. The film was produced by Zack Snyder alongside his wife and creative partner, Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller, through their production company, Stone Quarry. Gianni Nunnari and his company, Hollywood Gang Productions, also served as producers.
