Following the unveiling of the 2025 Emmy nominees, there has been an abundance of responses to those who will strive for gold in September. This competition can be quite fierce, with actors elegantly presenting their arguments as to why their nomination deserves a victory. It’s all part of the process, and nobody would face criticism for advocating on their behalf.
It’s truly heartwarming to witness Kathy Bates, star of Matlock, reacting to her nomination for “Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama.” Direct from the set of Matlock’s second season, you can watch the Academy Award-winning actress deliver an inspiring speech about her nomination below.

Observing Bates being showered with affection by executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman, along with co-stars David del Rio, Leah Lewis, and Skye P. Marshall, would have been impressive enough. But what made it even more special was that the entire crew on set for that day joined in the fun, seemingly surprising Bates for a celebratory event of some kind. Unless it’s common for Bates to receive flowers and cheers whenever she arrives on set, which would be fitting given her iconic role in Misery.
In light of tales about Kathy Bates’ diligence on Matlock, it wouldn’t surprise me at all. This performance served as a testament to that idea, as the actress dealt with it flawlessly, expressing “you’ve all been more than sufficient throughout this time.” A part of me feels like she might have been hinting that the talent on the 2024 CBS ratings success deserved some recognition themselves.
Well, it’s disheartening, isn’t it, when you’re so invested in a series – currently available on Paramount+ – and found its first season exceptionally captivating, only to be surprised that it received just one nomination at the 2025 Emmys. At minimum, it would have been gratifying to witness Skye P. Marshall’s performance as Olympia being acknowledged in the same category.

Discover the charm of Matlock Season 1 by signing up for Paramount+! This fantastic streaming service starts at an affordable $7.99 a month, or if you prefer, opt for the annual plan at $79.99. With the Premium plan, priced at $12.99 a month, enjoy ad-free viewing and access to the Showtime library. Whether it’s Kathy Bates’ latest reboot or the original Andy Griffith series, they’re both ready for you in court. Don’t miss out on this great deal!
As an ardent supporter, I can’t help but express my anticipation for Matty Matlock’s journey towards truth. It seems plausible that the path ahead will witness another significant stride. Intriguingly, audiences often find themselves drawn to compelling conflicts, and I believe the repercussions of Olympia’s unveiling of the true Wellbrexa culprit could ignite a narrative that further elevates Ms. Marshall into strong contention for next year’s storyline.
Instead of elaborating further on why a single nomination isn’t enough, I’ll borrow a page from Kathy Bates’ approach and express gratitude. With all the intriguing queries about Season 2 of Matlock yet to be answered, this show has the potential to become even more popular in its upcoming season.
By chance, the 77th Annual Emmys will be broadcast on CBS on Sunday, September 14th, commencing at 8 PM Eastern Time. On the other hand, Season 2 of Matlock is set to debut with two episodes in the same week, specifically on October 12th and 16th.
