Yes, 28 Years Later Fans Are Still Talking About That Prosthetic Penis, But How Does The Actor Feel?

Whenever the new movie 28 Years Later is mentioned, the conversation inevitably turns to one thing: the prosthetic penis used by actor Chi Lewis-Parry for his character, Samson. Despite strong performances from Ralph Fiennes and Jack O’Connell, it’s Samson’s… prominent feature that everyone is talking about, and Lewis-Parry himself is now addressing the buzz.

I was reading Variety recently, right before the premiere of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and Lewis-Parry talked about all the buzz around… well, his prosthetic. He basically said the internet freakout last summer was pretty predictable. But looking back, he realized something else from the whole thing.

I saw this coming, and honestly, I’m not upset. However, I really want to make sure all the hard work everyone put into these movies gets the recognition it deserves. The entire cast and crew are amazing, and I don’t want the focus to shift away from their accomplishments, even with the impressive special effects like Samson’s prosthetic.

It’s easy to understand his perspective. While Samson is central to the upcoming 2025 horror film, much of the conversation has focused on the prominent piece of costuming worn by Lewis-Parry.

Despite the strong writing by Alex Garland, Danny Boyle’s direction, and a breakout performance by Alfie Williams as Spike, the conversation around 28 Years Later has unfortunately focused on a controversial prop instead of the film’s powerful themes of grief, maturity, and fresh starts.

While many online have focused on Samson’s looks, Lewis-Parry clarified in a recent interview that he’s much more excited about the character’s development, story, and future in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

I often play many different characters without returning to them, but this one feels different – I’ve really connected with him. Because of that, I was particularly invested in how audiences would react. It might seem a little strange to care so much, but I genuinely care about the characters I portray and want to deliver a strong performance. I’m thrilled that this character has been so well-received.

The new movie shows off Samson’s impressive physique even more, but despite not doing well at the box office, it also delves deeper into his backstory and hints at future developments. This is particularly evident in the ending of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which raises significant questions about Samson and the other infected characters.

I’m still thinking about the movie, and it definitely left me wanting more! There are a few things I’m hoping they’ll explain in the next one – they’ve already hinted at a third 28 Years Later film, though we don’t know the title yet. I really hope Samson’s story isn’t over. That crazy night and everything that happened afterward felt like just the beginning, and I’m so curious to see what happens with him next – where will the Alpha go from here, you know?

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can now watch 28 Years Later on Netflix. Knowing what the actor who played Samson thinks about the movie makes it a great time to revisit this exciting horror film.
