Yellowstone’s New Action-Packed Spinoff Adds Award-Winning Country Music Star To Cast

Yellowstone‘s new, action-packed spinoff is growing its cast.

As the release date nears, the new series Marshals, a spin-off of Yellowstone, has added a popular country music star to its cast. The show picks up after the events of Yellowstone and follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) as he begins working with a team of US Marshals on assignments throughout Montana. The first season will feature many new characters within the Yellowstone world.

Okay, so here’s some interesting news for fans of Yellowstone! Variety is reporting that country star Riley Green is joining the cast of the upcoming Marshals series. He’ll be playing Garrett, a Navy SEAL who has a connection with both Kayce and a new character, Cal, played by Logan Marshall-Green. This is Riley’s first ever acting gig, and while it’s a guest role, he’ll be appearing in several episodes. They’ve got a quote from him about landing the part, which is pretty cool, and I’m definitely curious to see how this plays out!

I’m thrilled to be part of the Marshals cast! Working with my friend Luke Grimes made it a really special experience. As this is my first acting role, I couldn’t have hoped for a better way to start my journey.

With the conclusion of Yellowstone, the stage is set for Kayce Dutton’s future within the series. The Dutton ranch is now controlled by the Broken Rock tribe, and Kayce, along with his siblings, must determine their own destinies. For Kayce, this means a new career as a Marshal, which draws on skills he developed during his time as a Navy SEAL.

Though we’ll see some returning characters from Yellowstone – like Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty as Mo – most of the cast of Marshals will be new to the series. Joining them is Luke Green, and his character has a particularly strong relationship with Kayce, making him a key player.

Cody Green is a popular country music artist who has released three albums since 2019, including hits like “There Was This Girl” and “I Wish Grandpas Never Died.” His most recent album, Don’t Mind If I Do, released in 2024, reached number 25 on the US Billboard 200 chart. He’s now making his acting debut in Marshals.

As a big fan of Yellowstone, I’m really excited about all the spinoffs they’re planning! Marshals is coming up soon, and it sounds great. But get this – they’re also filming a series called The Dutton Ranch that will follow Beth and Rip after they finally get their own place. And that’s not all! There are two more shows in the works, one set in 1944 and another called 6666, that are still in the early stages of development. It’s a whole Yellowstone universe expanding before our eyes!

With Green joining the cast of Marshals as a former colleague of Kayce from his time as a Navy SEAL, the new Yellowstone spinoff will be able to explore Kayce’s backstory in more detail. This allows the show to expand on ideas only hinted at in the original series, focusing on Kayce’s experiences earlier in life.

Marshals premieres Sunday, March 1 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
