Jake Schreier is beginning to open up about Marvel Studios’ plans for the X-Men.
Following his work on the films Robot & Frank (2012) and Paper Towns (2015), director Jake Schreier helmed the 2025 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thunderbolts, starring Florence Pugh. The movie earned favorable reviews from both audiences and critics. Last year, in July, it was announced that Schreier would also direct a new X-Men movie.
Details about this project are currently scarce, and it isn’t anticipated to be released until after both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
What did Jake Schreier say about the MCU X-Men movie?
In an interview with Collider, Jason Schreier discussed Marvel’s plans for the X-Men. He explained that their primary focus is on making the first movie excellent. However, they’re also constantly brainstorming potential future directions for the franchise, looking at storylines from the comics and considering less-explored ideas. They want to find a unique path forward, and these discussions are happening throughout the development process.
Marvel hasn’t announced any actors for the upcoming X-Men movie yet, so it’s unknown which characters will be featured or who will lead the film and any potential sequels. While rumors are circulating – like Sadie Sink possibly playing Jean Grey if she appears in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Secret Wars – nothing has been officially confirmed.
According to recent reports, Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are now writing the script for the upcoming X-Men movie. This follows earlier news from May 2024 that Michael Lesslie had also been working on it.
The MCU X-Men movie does not yet have a release date.
