The film is expected to perform very well in theaters, with recent forecasts suggesting it will outperform the new crime thriller starring Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry.
Emerald Fennell’s new period romance stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as the leads, telling a love story set in the Yorkshire moors. It’s opening on February 13th, a busy weekend for films, alongside Chris Hemsworth’s Crime 101 and the animated movie Goat.
According to Deadline, Wuthering Heights is predicted to perform better than its rival films, potentially earning $70 to $80 million globally during its opening weekend. Of that amount, around $40 to $50 million is expected to come from U.S. and Canadian theaters, with another $30 million from international audiences.
Crime 101 is expected to earn significantly less than Fennell’s film, with an estimated $15 million opening weekend. Hemsworth’s movie will also likely perform below Goat, which is forecast to make around $20 million domestically over the same period.
Emerald Fennell, known for her film Saltburn (2023), now presents her take on Emily Brontë’s classic novel, Wuthering Heights. The movie is gaining attention online for its unique changes to the original story and some explicit new scenes, and early predictions suggest it will draw a large audience, particularly among women.
