Writer of Near-Perfect MCU Story Confirms Avengers: Doomsday Contributions

So, I just heard Michael Waldron, the writer and creator behind a lot of cool stuff, is talking about what he’s been working on for the next big Marvel movie. It’s awesome to get a peek behind the scenes from the person actually building this huge crossover event!

In an interview with *The Wrap*, writer Christopher Markus explained his early involvement with what eventually became *Avengers: Endgame*. He was initially working on a project called *Avengers: Doomsday* without a director attached, participating in planning discussions. After that project was canceled, he continued developing ideas that would later form the basis of both *Endgame* and *Secret Wars*, until the Russo brothers and Steve McFeely joined the team.

After the huge success of *Loki*, which he created, wrote, and produced, Waldron also contributed to films like *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*, *Thor: Love and Thunder*, and *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*. He explained that once the plans for *Avengers: Doomsday* began to take shape, he rejoined the project. He wanted to collaborate with the directors, Joe and Anthony, and Steve, offering his support in any way possible. He simply aimed to help them bring their vision to life.

The recent movie *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* not only added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also introduced Doctor Doom – a character fans have been eagerly waiting for. Actor Robert Downey Jr. played the role, and a brief scene after the credits showed Doctor Doom watching Franklin Richards. Franklin is expected to be an important character in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* movie, which will be released next year.

What Can Fans Expect from Avengers: Doomsday When It Arrives in Theaters?

When *Avengers: Doomsday* hits theaters, it’s expected to be the largest Marvel Cinematic Universe film ever, significantly surpassing previous installments. This is primarily because the movie will unite characters from different universes as their worlds merge, both in a metaphorical and physical sense, due to ‘incursions.’ Beyond familiar MCU heroes like Thor and Shuri, *Avengers: Doomsday* will officially introduce characters from the *X-Men* films and *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* into the MCU. As explained by those involved, these ‘incursions’ refer to the collision of different universes.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently slated to arrive in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
