Wonder Man’s MCU Timeline Placement Confuses Fans, But Actually Makes Perfect Sense

Okay, so Wonder Man finally landed a spot in the official Disney+ MCU timeline, and honestly, it makes total sense despite some initial fan confusion. A lot of us figured it would be earlier, seeing as how they filmed it between April 2023 and March 2024. But things got really interesting when the trailers and promos hinted that the open casting call within the show actually happens in January 2026! That threw a wrench in the timeline expectations, but it all clicks now.

Disney+ has revised its official timeline of Marvel Cinematic Universe events to include the new series Wonder Man. The show takes place after Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, fitting into the ongoing Phase 6 of the MCU.

The early 2026 release date for Wonder Man is connected to a Disney+ series where Ben Kingsley’s character, Trevor Slattery, reveals he’s been sober for 13 years – likely since being imprisoned after Iron Man 3. Considering Slattery first appeared in December 2012, this suggests Wonder Man will begin filming around January 2026, though the exact schedule beyond that is unclear.

Based on the pace of filming, it’s likely Von Kovak’s Wonder Man movie would have taken about 1.5 to 2 years to finish, meaning it could have been released around 2027.

The movie Thunderbolts is currently expected to be released in late 2027. A scene after the credits will jump the storyline forward by 14 months, placing events around the end of 2028 or the beginning of 2029.

It seems like the timing of the Wonder Man series within the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be determined by when it finishes airing. It’s likely to take place sometime between the Thunderbolts movie and the scene after the credits that hints at Avengers: Doomsday.

I’m still trying to figure out exactly when William’s time in Yucca Valley with Chuck happens after the Wonder Man premiere. It can’t be long after, though, because Agent Cleary was just giving his first report on all the damage that happened on the Wonder Man set – the stuff caused by the actor’s powers.

Wonder Man Takes the MCU One Step Closer to Avengers: Doomsday

The making of Wonder Man is taking longer than most Marvel movies, which fits with where it falls in the overall timeline. It’s set relatively recently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but before the huge, universe-altering events of Avengers: Doomsday.

Fans anticipated Wonder Man would be released sooner, as filming finished a while ago – around the same time as projects that take place earlier in the MCU. When Echo and Ironheart experienced similar setbacks, Disney+ moved them to the end of Phase 5 and re-set them within Phase 4 instead.

The future of Wonder Man on Disney+ is uncertain, but the people making the show have shared some ideas for what could happen in a second season. Unless production speeds up significantly, it’s unlikely a second season would be finished before Avengers: Secret Wars. If it does happen, the story would likely connect to a refreshed version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, essentially starting fresh with some familiar elements.
