Hammer Films has been delighting horror fans for the past year with beautifully packaged, limited-edition releases of their classic movies, including titles like Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter and The Quatermass Xperiment. Now, they’re introducing a brand new collection.
As a huge fan of classic horror, I’m really excited about what Hammer Presents is doing! They’re not just focusing on their own films, but also giving the same loving treatment – like beautiful high-definition restorations – to movies made by other British studios from that golden age. It means we’ll get to see even more of those fantastic films looking better than ever!
The horror film Cry of the Banshee, directed by Gordon Hessler in 1970 and starring Vincent Price, is the first to receive this special treatment. The film tells the story of a cruel judge who is cursed by a witch. This new two-disc edition from Hammer Presents includes both the director’s original cut – in both widescreen and standard versions – and a re-edited version released in the US by AIP. Special features include a new audio commentary by author Chris Alexander and an interview with horror expert Kim Newman.
You can now purchase Cry of the Banshee on 4K and Blu-ray, starting February 9th. We’re giving away five Blu-ray copies! To enter for a chance to win, just answer the question below. Please be aware that this competition is only open to residents of the UK.
