Will Flash The Sloth Be In Zootopia 2? I’m Pleased To Report What I Learned From Disney Animation About His Return

With the release of *Zootopia 2* just under two months away, fans are eagerly anticipating one of the biggest animated movies of 2025. Last month, TopMob visited Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California, and got a sneak peek at what’s in store for Nick Wilde, Judy Hopps, and other familiar characters from the original film. I, as a big fan of Flash Slothmore (the sloth!), have some exclusive information about what to expect from him in the sequel.

Zootopia 2 Filmmakers Confirmed Flash The Sloth Is One Of Many Returning Zootopia Characters

I still crack up thinking about the DMV scene in *Zootopia*! It was such a brilliant part of the movie, they even used it in the trailers. Seeing Nick and Judy’s urgent investigation grind to a complete stop because *everything* moves at a sloth’s pace is just perfect. Nick telling a joke to Flash, and then watching Flash slowly process it before *very* slowly relaying it to his coworker… it’s honestly just as funny now as it was when I first saw the movie nearly ten years ago!

I recently attended an advance press event for *Zootopia 2* representing TopMob, and I wanted to share that filmmakers Byron Howard and Jared Bush confirmed Flash will return in the sequel. Many other characters from the first movie – including Dawn Bellweather, Leodore Lionheart, Gazelle, Mr. Big, and Fru Fru – will also be back. However, despite this confirmation, Flash isn’t featured in the promotional trailers Disney has released for *Zootopia 2* so far.

Disney+ subscriptions start at $9.99 per month with ads, and will increase to $11.99 starting October 21, 2025. You can currently stream *Zootopia* and *Zootopia+* in preparation for the upcoming *Zootopia 2* movie in theaters this fall. For ad-free viewing, a subscription costs $15.99 a month (increasing to $18.99 on October 21, 2025), or you can save 16% by paying $159.99 for a full year. See the deal here.

Flash The Sloth Is In Zootopia 2. What I Know About His Return

The story of *Zootopia 2* begins a week after the first film ended, with Nick and Judy still learning to work well together as partners. They soon become involved in a new case, investigating the reason why reptiles haven’t been part of Zootopia’s population. Director Howard Moore hinted at the return of the character Flash when asked about the film.

The humor in the dynamic between Judy and Nick really comes from putting them in awkward or uncomfortable situations. We discussed this with Andrew Stanton, and it’s clear that a big part of what makes these movies enjoyable is watching these two strong characters interact and bounce off each other – that’s been central to the whole Zootopia concept.

That all makes sense! It sounds like Flash will reappear in a situation that puts Nick and Judy in an awkward or difficult spot, maybe even slowing their progress. I’m actually excited to be surprised by his return, especially since he already had a memorable scene in the first movie. As Disney’s Chief Creative Officer, Bush, also mentioned:

We deliberately avoided repeating ideas from previous projects. Audiences are perceptive and quickly notice when something feels familiar. Instead, we focused on exploring the incredible diversity of animals and finding fresh, engaging ways to showcase them, aiming for entertainment without being repetitive.

I got a sneak peek at 20 minutes of the new Zootopia movie and it’s going to be hilarious and a lot of fun! I’m really excited for the November 26th release and to find out what Flash Slothmore gets up to this time around.
