I became curious if Bryan Cranston might appear on the show The Pitt after discovering his daughter, Taylor Dearden, plays Dr. Mel King. My hope grew when Cranston publicly complimented her work. Now, with Season 2 of The Pitt about to launch, a producer has hinted at the possibility of Cranston making a guest appearance.
The discussion about Bryan Cranston began when Brad Dourif, known for his role in Chucky, was mentioned in a Rotten Tomatoes interview. He had a guest appearance on The Pitt during its first season. Interestingly, Brad’s daughter, Fiona Dourif, is a series regular on the show, playing Dr. McKay, and she got to work alongside her father, who played her character’s father, Neil McKay. This led the interviewer to wonder if they’d consider bringing in Bryan Cranston alongside Taylor. Director and executive producer John Wells then responded:
It’s a temptation that we want to avoid.
Okay, so that pretty much confirms it – don’t expect to see Bryan Cranston popping up on The Pitt anytime soon. And honestly, there’s a perfectly understandable reason why that’s the case.
The show features a cast of incredibly talented, but mostly lesser-known actors, with Noah Wyle being the main exception. The creators want to keep the focus on the characters and the important messages about healthcare and medicine, rather than on celebrity. As Wells explained further…
Fiona’s dad was intentionally cast in a way that didn’t draw attention to himself, which helped maintain the show’s realism. We want the focus to remain on the story and the talented actors we have, and we often feature guest stars who are accomplished and skilled at what they do.

I’m so excited about The Pitt coming to HBO Max! If you want to watch it weekly, you’ll need a subscription, but it’s totally worth it – plans start at just $10.99 a month. Plus, you get access to other amazing shows like The White Lotus and House of the Dragon. Definitely check it out!
Honestly, as much as I’d love to see Bryan Cranston (or any big star, really) on The Pitt, I worry it could become more about them than the actual show. It’s like, we’d be so distracted by recognizing the actor that we’d lose sight of the story they’re trying to tell, and that would be a shame.
I’m not saying guest stars are always a bad idea – sometimes they really work! For example, Bryan Cranston won an Emmy for his guest appearance on The Studio, which seemed to have everyone famous on it. But not every show can pull that off, and that’s definitely true for The Pitt.
While fans were hoping to see a certain father-daughter duo in the upcoming season of The Pitt, it doesn’t seem that will happen. But that’s not necessarily a disappointment! Though it would be fun to see them together, they have other opportunities. The show, which was a standout medical drama in 2025, will continue to follow the characters we already love and introduce some exciting new faces. That feels like a positive direction for the series.
If you’re excited to watch Taylor Dearden and the rest of the cast of The Pitt again, get your HBO Max subscription set up! Season 2 starts January 8th, and new episodes will be released every Thursday after that.
