Wicked, Superman Lead Blu-ray Disc Sales In 2025

Surprisingly, it wasn’t Superman that was the best-selling Blu-ray of 2025. That title actually went to the 2024 fantasy hit. Superman came in second, followed by Jurassic World Rebirth, Thunderbolts, and Ballerina: From the World of John Wick, completing the top five best-selling Blu-ray discs of the year.

Wicked was the best-selling home video title overall, even when including DVD sales. It outperformed other popular releases like Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, Venom: The Last Dance, and Thunderbolts. Wicked also led in sales of 4K UHD Blu-rays, finishing ahead of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Superman, and Gladiator II. Ultimately, Wicked was the clear winner across all major home media formats.

Given its popularity, it’s no surprise that it’s also been very successful as a physical product.

Following the success of Wicked, there’s anticipation for the continuation of the story – whether you consider it a sequel or simply the second part. Early indications suggest this next chapter will be compelling, and so far, the signs are promising.

Michael Moses, Universal’s marketing chief, has spoken about the possibility of expanding the world of Wicked. He explained that, given the movie’s popularity and devoted fanbase, they feel a duty to explore continuing the story. While they haven’t finalized any plans yet, he confirmed that they are actively working on ideas.

Wicked Dominated Disc Sales in 2025

The movie Wicked is based on the popular 2003 Broadway musical, which itself was inspired by Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel. That novel offers a fresh take on L. Frank Baum’s classic 1939 story, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The film tells the story of Elphaba, the ‘wicked witch’ (played by Cynthia Erivo), and Glinda (played by Ariana Grande), and shows what happened before the events of the original story, giving a new perspective on how everything unfolded.

I’m absolutely captivated by the story of Wicked! It centers around Elphaba, this incredible, strong-willed girl who’s born with green skin and feels like an outsider, and Glinda, who seems to have it all – popularity and privilege. The amazing part is how these two, so different on the surface, become friends in the wonderful Land of Oz. It’s a story about how their personalities clash, but also how they both grow into the people they’re meant to be – Glinda the Good and, ultimately, the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West. It’s just a beautiful, complex tale!

As a huge film fan, I’m really excited about Jon M. Chu directing Wicked! The screenplay is by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, which is fantastic. And the cast? Seriously incredible – alongside Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, we’ve got Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, and even Jeff Goldblum! It’s shaping up to be a movie event.
