Wicked: For Good’s Ariana Grande Was Being Eyed for Major Live-Action Disney Role — Report

Ariana Grande was previously being eyed to star in a major live-action Disney project.

The movie Wicked: For Good is now showing in theaters across the United States. Ariana Grande plays the role of Glinda, and Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba in this sequel to the 2024 film, which is based on the beloved stage musical created by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman.

What live-action Disney role was Ariana Grande being eyed to play?

Sources say Ariana Grande was once a potential candidate to star as Rapunzel in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Tangled, but Disney reportedly decided she was too old for the role.

Currently, this is just a rumor and shouldn’t be considered confirmed. Disney hasn’t officially announced whether Ariana Grande is being considered to play Rapunzel in a live-action version of Tangled.

I’m so excited to hear that a live-action version of Tangled is actually happening! They announced it earlier this year, in 2024, and Michael Gracey, who directed The Greatest Showman and Better Man, is going to be directing. Jennifer Kaylin Robinson is writing the script, which is fantastic news!

Work on the project stopped in April after Disney’s live-action Snow White movie didn’t perform as well as they’d hoped. The film earned $206 million globally, but cost around $240 to $270 million to make.

Just last month, Deadline reported the live-action “Tangled” remake had returned to the very beginning of its production process. While nothing is confirmed, Scarlett Johansson is currently being considered for the role of Mother Gothel.

The live-action Tangled remake does not have a release date at this time.

After finishing her work on “Wicked: For Good,” Ariana Grande will appear in the next “Meet the Parents” movie, called “Focker In-Law.” Directed by John Hamburg, the film is scheduled for release in November 2026 and also features Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner.
