The movie Wicked: For Good has already set a box office record, even before its opening weekend is over. It’s a sequel based on the popular Broadway musical, telling the story of the friendship between Glinda (played by Ariana Grande) and the Wicked Witch of the West (Cynthia Erivo). This new film’s soundtrack includes two original songs written by the original musical’s composer, Stephen Schwartz, adding to the beloved score.
Universal Pictures announced that Wicked: For Good brought in $30.8 million at the box office during its preview showings. This is the highest preview gross of any film released in 2025 to date, significantly surpassing the previous record of $24.4 million set by Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
This is a significant improvement for the series, considering that Wicked in 2024 only made $19.2 million from its Thursday preview showings. However, Wicked had a head start because it showed previews from Monday to Thursday. If you only look at its Thursday earnings, For Good brought in $18.2 million.
It’s still unknown how much money the movie Wicked: For Good will make in its first three days in theaters, and how that compares to the success of the popular 2024 film. That movie started with $112.5 million in ticket sales and ultimately earned $758.7 million around the world.
