New episodes of Fox’s Murder in a Small Town won’t be airing tonight. While networks like NBC, ABC, and CBS are well-known for crime dramas, Fox has also been offering them this TV season. Though Doc is currently receiving more buzz after a strong first year, Fox has another police show quietly gaining a dedicated following.
It’s easy to miss Murder in a Small Town because it’s not on the major networks and isn’t part of popular crime franchises like NCIS or Law & Order. However, viewers who enjoy police procedurals but are looking for something a little different are discovering this show. It centers around police chief Karl Alberg, played by Rossif Sutherland, and his investigations in the small town of Gibson. The show also features a romantic storyline, which adds to its appeal.
Why Fox Is Not Airing New Episodes Of Murder in a Small Town On December 9, 2025
The season 2 finale of Murder in a Small Town, titled “Nightshade,” includes a significant moment for Karl and Cass. Their relationship has been a central focus throughout the series, even while a killer is on the loose each week. The episode ends with Karl proposing to Cass—a direct engagement to close out the season. However, despite their obvious love for each other, the show leaves viewers puzzled by Cass’s underwhelming response, making fans wonder what she’s really thinking.
That concludes the current season of the Fox crime drama. While many police shows have around 16 episodes each season, Murder in a Small Town season 2 will only have 10. This is already more than its first season, which had just 8 episodes. Viewers will have to wait until season 3 to learn what happens with Cass’ storyline.
When Murder In A Small Town Will Return With New Episodes
On top of the suspense following Karl’s proposal, fans of Murder in a Small Town are worried about whether the show will be renewed for a third season. Fox hasn’t made a decision yet, so there’s no guarantee the story will continue past the cliffhanger involving Karl and Cass in the episode “Nightshade.” It’s possible the series could end with their relationship unresolved.
If Fox decides to continue the show Murder in a Small Town, new episodes will likely air next fall. There are no signs the network plans to change the show’s schedule. In the meantime, fans of the series can read the The Alberg and Cassandra Mysteries novels by L.R. Wright, which inspired the show.
