This year, the Yellowstone universe is expanding, with two new shows, Marshals and The Madison, launching in March. Another, The Dutton Ranch, is planned for 2026. However, one of Taylor Sheridan’s planned spinoffs has been delayed with no new release date set.
Taylor Sheridan’s most anticipated new series, 6666, will be based on the true story of the historic Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, and will expand the world of Yellowstone. He intentionally wove the ranch into Yellowstone‘s storyline with this spinoff in mind. In fact, the Yellowstone episode “Under a Blanket of Red” served as a preview of 6666.
The series’ development has been on hold for the past year, while other Yellowstone spin-offs are still progressing. It now seems likely that 6666 may not be produced at all, due to production challenges and Taylor Sheridan’s packed schedule.
6666 Is The Yellowstone Spinoff Most Important To Taylor Sheridan
Considering how personally meaningful a 6666 series would be for Taylor Sheridan, given his Yellowstone success, it’s surprising it hasn’t been fast-tracked. The show would be the first in the franchise located in his home state of Texas, specifically at the Four Sixes ranch, which Sheridan recently bought.
This famous cattle ranch is a fully operational, historically important farm located near where Taylor Sheridan grew up in North Texas. In addition to his work as a writer and producer, Sheridan will also star in the TV show, playing Travis Wheatley, whose character has a connection to the Four Sixes ranch.
The Four Sixes Ranch Inspired Taylor Sheridan To Make Yellowstone
The show 6666 won’t simply be a continuation of Yellowstone mixing fact and fiction; it will pay tribute to the real-life ranch that served as the inspiration for Taylor Sheridan’s entire Western television world. Sheridan revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he modeled the Dutton ranch after the massive Four Sixes ranch in Texas, explaining that ranches of that size and complexity aren’t found in Montana.
The real-life ranch also appears in season 2 of the Yellowstone spin-off 1923, where the character Teonna Rainwater arrives during her travels across the West. Taylor Sheridan, who created the show, already owned the ranch when those scenes were filmed.
Why Taylor Sheridan’s 6666 Might Never Happen
While Taylor Sheridan is passionate about making 6666, the show is facing significant challenges. Filming a series about a real cattle ranch on location, and accurately portraying its history, would be incredibly complex and expensive.
Even though Taylor Sheridan owns the ranch, it’s actually making things more complicated. He’s determined to keep it operating as a real cattle ranch, all while dedicating more and more of his time to other television projects – even ones that aren’t related to Yellowstone.
The future of the series 6666 is uncertain, particularly after Jefferson White, who played Jimmy Hurdstrom on Yellowstone, indicated in December 2025 that he doesn’t anticipate returning to the role in the near future. The premise of 6666 originated with Hurdstrom’s departure from Montana to work at the Four Sixes ranch.
White expressed appreciation for the opportunities he had while also saying he’d welcome doing more. He acknowledged the show was successful and didn’t want to seem ungrateful. This comes as neither Paramount nor Taylor Sheridan has commented on the future of 6666.
