Season 4 of Invincible will continue the same fast-paced and action-packed style fans have come to expect, without any major changes to its approach.
As a huge superhero fan, I’m really into this new season! It basically picks up right after season 3 of Invincible left off, with Mark Grayson really facing the consequences of that massive Invincible War. I’ve seen the first three episodes, and let me tell you, things are moving fast. It’s a wild ride so far!
I was really interested to hear Robert Kirkman and Simon Racioppa, the creators of Invincible, talk about season 4 with ScreenRant. They explained how important it is to them that the show doesn’t ‘reset’ – meaning everything that’s happened before still matters and impacts what’s going on now. Kirkman also talked about how they’re building this incredibly detailed world with constant dangers, and even suggested the whole superhero system might be starting to crack under the pressure. It’s cool that they’re not ignoring the consequences of past events!
I’m not sure if the typical superhero formula is starting to feel stretched, but we’re definitely aiming to create a really complicated world where lots of things are happening simultaneously. With a universe as large as Invincible’s, it’s interesting to explore situations where multiple villains are attacking at once, forcing heroes to prioritize. A lot of superhero stories follow a predictable pattern – one event leads directly to the next. We wanted to make things feel more chaotic and show how heroes cope with multiple threats at the same time.
It’s understandable that things are getting complicated, even for the main character, Mark Grayson. As the show heads into its fourth season, he’s adopted a grim new outlook: eliminating anyone who threatens his family. This change hasn’t gone unnoticed by Cecil and the Guardians, who are now preparing backup plans. The first three episodes showcase Mark’s new ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ approach.
Unlike shows like The Flash, which handle threats individually within a clear structure, Invincible builds on itself, much like the comic books it’s based on. While The Boys also explores long-lasting consequences, Invincible feels even more unpredictable, with the results of one event quickly leading to the next. As Simon Racioppa puts it:
We wanted to make it clear to viewers that the incredibly violent events of the last two episodes had lasting consequences, impacting the entire world. Things aren’t simply returning to normal; rebuilding and recovery will take a very long time, and may not even be fully possible. This first episode emphasizes that the recent conflict – the Conquest and the Invincible War – is still fresh in everyone’s minds and continues to affect our characters and the world around them. We’re carrying the scars of those events, and we wanted to remind the audience that this isn’t a fresh start; Invincible doesn’t reset. We’re continuing the story directly from where we left off.
This season isn’t just building on what came before – it’s significantly bigger in scope. The show started by focusing on the characters and their personal struggles, but now those struggles are having effects that reach across planets and galaxies. This creates several major threats and keeps the story moving forward at a fast pace.
Season 4 of Invincible shows a world still healing from previous battles, but now facing a new wave of problems arriving quickly. The season will keep the action moving forward, with dangers appearing from all directions and conflicts happening at the same time.
