Jack Black says Super Mario sequel will have ‘tons of Easter eggs’ from 2007 game

Jack Black recently told GamesRadar+ that The Super Mario Bros. Movie is packed with hidden references for fans of the Mario universe, and he believes longtime fans will love how it’s been adapted for the big screen.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie follows up on the huge success of 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned $1.3 billion around the world.

The new movie follows Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad as they journey into space to face Bowser Jr. – the son of the villainous Bowser. In the last film, Peach shrunk Bowser and trapped him in a jar. Now, as shown in the trailer released last month, the tiny Bowser has built a miniature fortress inside Peach’s castle.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel is scheduled to release in North America on April 3, 2026, and in Japan on April 24, 2026. Michael Jelenic and Aaron Horvath directed the film, with a script written by Matthew Fogel.

Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson are all returning to voice their characters from the first movie: Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi, Bowser, Toad, and Kamek. Joining them are Benny Safdie, known for his role in Oppenheimer, and Brie Larson, from Captain Marvel, who will voice Bowser Jr. and Rosalina, respectively.
