News about the upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is promising. The series, based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg, has a strong future, with outlines for 12 unreleased stories already shared with co-creator Ira Parker. HBO has already renewed the show for a second season, indicating its potential for a long run.

Ira Parker recently told The National that George R.R. Martin has written brief outlines for 10 to 12 additional stories, continuing the adventures of Dunk and Egg throughout their lives.

If HBO decides to create a season for each of George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms could potentially last for more than eight seasons. However, according to co-showrunner Mark Parker, they aren’t currently planning that far ahead. Right now, the team is focused on finishing Season 1 and is already working on Season 2. Parker hopes audiences enjoy the show enough to allow it to continue beyond those initial seasons.

I absolutely love working on this project! The world we’re building through the story is fantastic, and I really hope we get to create many more installments. It’s just a wonderful experience, and I’m so excited for what’s to come.

George R.R. Martin has given different numbers over time when discussing how many Dunk & Egg stories he plans to write. He clarified in a 2014 blog post that figures like seven, ten, or twelve were just estimates and not firm commitments.

So far, George R.R. Martin has published three stories featuring Dunk and Egg: The Hedge Knight (1988), The Sworn Sword (2003), and The Mystery Knight (2010). These stories were later collected and published as a single book, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, on October 6, 2015.

The new show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will premiere on January 18, 2026. The cast includes Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell, Sam Spruell, Finn Bennett, Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, and Tanzyn Crawford.
