Who Is the New Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton?

It was finally time for Penelope Bridgerton to stop writing as Lady Whistledown. However, someone else secretly took over. This new person continues to spread scandalous gossip about London’s high society, and has managed to remain hidden so far.

The new Gossip Girl-esque writer is likely someone we’ve already met on the Netflix show Bridgerton. If not, the reveal won’t be very satisfying. Season 4 did introduce a lot of new faces, making it hard to guess. Luckily, the show seems to be pointing towards Miss Hyacinth Bridgerton as the most probable candidate, thanks to a comment she made about being upset that Lady Whistledown stopped writing.

Is Hyacinth Bridgerton the Next Lady Whistledown?

Hyacinth feels like a much more developed character in Season 4 of Bridgerton compared to previous seasons. While she used to primarily tease and playfully criticize her brother, she’s now portrayed as a typical teenager eager to find a husband. She’s excited to be introduced into society and actively prepares for it, taking dance lessons and even getting Eloise to help her sneak into events.

When Penelope announces she’s stopping her writing as Lady Whistledown, Hyacinth is upset, worried about who will document her entrance into society. She dramatically wonders who will write about her debut and declare her the season’s diamond. Like many in the ton, Hyacinth relies on Lady Whistledown to build her reputation, so without Penelope’s help, she realizes she’ll have to create her own buzz.

For a short time in Season 4, Hyacinth doesn’t seem interested in using Lady Whistledown’s influence to help her debut into society. However, her enthusiasm for finding a husband soon fades. She’s deeply afraid of losing someone she cares about, and this fear makes her hesitant to fall in love at all. Surprisingly, it’s Eloise who helps Hyacinth realize that love is a wonderful thing, and that the youngest Bridgerton shouldn’t let fear prevent her from finding a partner.

Hyacinth’s changing views on love might be inspired by her sister, Eloise. Eloise has a deep passion for the arts, and Hyacinth seems to be following her lead by exploring literature. Given Hyacinth’s affection for Penelope, it’s possible she became Lady Whistledown not out of malice, but because she admires both Penelope and Eloise, the women she cares about most.

The Lady Whistledown Mystery Keeps Interest Alive for Bridgerton

I still love Bridgerton, and it’s definitely still popular on Netflix, but honestly, the hype has died down a bit. A lot of us fans are getting frustrated that it’s taking so long to get to Eloise’s story, and the reasons they give for characters being missing just don’t make sense. Like, Anthony was at his brother’s wedding, but suddenly can’t be bothered to help when someone threatens the family’s reputation? And where is Daphne? It feels like she’s never around anymore!

However, the biggest problem appeared in Season 3. As Season 4 later revealed, revealing Penelope as Lady Whistledown created several issues with the storytelling. Knowing her identity took away the excitement of discovering each new gossip sheet. Most importantly, the drama felt less intense because Penelope couldn’t really cause major scandals anymore.

A new gossip writer is stirring things up, and this will definitely complicate things for the main character’s love life. Everyone will be closely watching how she handles romance, and it would be a surprising reveal if her sister was behind it all!
