When ‘Spartacus: House of Ashur’ Episodes Release: Full Schedule

Starz is back with a new chapter in the Spartacus saga, Spartacus: House of Ashur, twelve years after the end of War of the Damned. This ten-episode series reimagines history, exploring what might have happened if Spartacus’s enemy, Ashur (played by Nick E. Tarabay), had built his own gladiator school and led a rebellion to free enslaved people before an audience of fans.

Most fans already know that House of Ashur will debut on December 5, 2025, but details about its release after that are a little unclear. Beyond the basic storyline, returning characters, and the creative team, the most important question is how, when, and where to watch Starz’s new action drama, Spartacus: House of Ashur, when it premieres this December.

How ‘House of Ashur’ Connects to the ‘Spartacus’ Franchise

Starz

Steven DeKnight was a key figure in the production of the action-packed historical drama Spartacus on Starz from 2010 to 2013. The show follows Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) and his uprising against the Roman Republic between 73 and 71 BC. A major opponent of Spartacus was Ashur (Tarabay), a Syrian gladiator who stopped fighting after a serious injury caused by Crixus. Unable to continue as a combatant, Ashur transitioned into a role as a soldier and record-keeper for his mentor, Quintus Lentulus Batiatus (John Hannah).

Despite only being in the first two seasons of Spartacus, John Hawke returned to star in Spartacus: House of Ashur, again produced by Steven DeKnight. However, the new story significantly changes what happened previously. House of Ashur acts as if Ashur survived and wasn’t injured in the battle at Mount Vesuvius. The series explores what Ashur would do if he took over Batiatus’s gladiator school. He gives enslaved people a chance at freedom by making them fight to the death for the entertainment of wealthy spectators, which causes problems with ambitious Roman senators and corrupt officials.

Besides Tarabay, Lucy Lawless returns briefly as Lucretia, Batiatus’s wife. After her death, Lucretia appears as a spirit to Ashur, urging him to carry on the gladiator training. Ashur continues this legacy by starting to include female gladiators, with Achillia (Tenika Davis) becoming the first woman given the opportunity to fight for her freedom in the arena.

Look, if you were a fan of the original show, you already know it wasn’t just about the action. Between all the fighting, there was definitely a lot of heat and some seriously steamy moments. And honestly, that’s exactly what I’m expecting from House of Ashur when it hits screens on December 5th, 2025 – more of that same intoxicating mix.

Who Else Stars in ‘Spartacus: House of Ashur’?

Starz

Alongside the returning characters of Tarabay and Lawless, Spartacus: House of Ashur will feature several new faces. These characters range from figures based on historical accounts to those created solely for the story. Key additions include Proculus (Simon Arblaster), a competing gladiator trainer who leads the House of Proculus, and Celadus (Dan Hamill), an experienced and powerful gladiator focused on helping his son, Tarchon (Jordi Webber), achieve success.

Ashur is training a new group of gladiators, guided by the experience of his trainer, Korris (Graham McTavish). He also begins a relationship with Hilara (Jamaica Vaughan), a captivating slave who enjoys a bit more freedom than her quieter companion, Messia (Ivana Baquero).

Julius Caesar, portrayed by Jackson Gallagher, and his scheming wife, Cornelia (Jamie Slater), hold significant power. Under their rule, enslaved individuals like Ephesius (Evander Brown) and Helios (Joel Abadal) compete for Caesar’s favor and recognition. Liam McIntyre, known from “The Flash” and “The Legend of Hercules”, stars as Spartacus and will be central to the growing influence of Ashur.

Beyond the intense gladiatorial action, “House of Ashur” delves into the political intrigue of Rome, with figures like Gabinius (played by Andrew McFarlane) determined to maintain control and keep slaves under oppression. “Spartacus: House of Ashur” will debut on Starz on December 5, 2025.
