The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is coming soon, and Netflix has a special plan for how it will be released. Just before the show’s 10-year anniversary, the Duffer Brothers’ series will end with episodes released in three parts. This staggered release format has become more common on Netflix, including for previous seasons of Stranger Things.
The fourth season of Stranger Things came out in two parts: the first seven episodes on May 27, 2022, and the last two on July 1, 2022. Now, looking ahead to the 2025 release of season 5, the schedule is even more complex. Although new episodes will premiere on Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve, they’ll be released at the same times as before.

If you’re planning to watch all of Stranger Things season 5 Volume 1 back-to-back, you should block off about four and a half hours. The first episode is 1 hour and 8 minutes long, followed by episode 2 at 54 minutes, episode 3 at 1 hour and 6 minutes, and the longest episode in this volume, episode 4, which runs for 1 hour and 23 minutes.
When The Rest Of Stranger Things Season 5 Comes To Netflix
After Volume 1 came out on November 26th, the remaining episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 will be released on Netflix in two parts. Volume 2, including episodes 4 through 7, will be available on Christmas night – about a month after the first set. Then, just a few days later, on New Year’s Eve, the final episodes – Volume 3 – will conclude the series.
Just like with the first part of the season, all the remaining episodes of Stranger Things season 5 will become available on Netflix at 8 PM Eastern Time / 5 PM Pacific Time on their release dates. This isn’t the usual time for new Netflix shows, but the streaming service does this for big events. Considering this is the final season of such a popular show, and people will be making plans around the holidays, it makes sense they’re doing things a little differently.

What Stranger Things’ Creators Have Said About The Season 5 Release Schedule
Rumors circulated that the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, suggested releasing season 5 episodes weekly on Netflix. However, the Duffers have confirmed this never happened. The current plan to release the season in three parts has proven controversial, particularly because each set of episodes drops around a major holiday for many viewers.
Ross Duffer explained the plan for releasing season 5 of Stranger Things, justifying the decision to split it into three parts. He clarified that they had known about this schedule for a long time, and it influenced how the story was written. Unlike with season 4, this wasn’t a last-minute change for the actors, according to Duffer.
As a huge fan, I’m really hyped for this first volume! You know, with season four, we didn’t realize it would be split until it actually happened. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, really – the pandemic threw everything off, and splitting it just let us get episodes to us faster. But this time around, we knew it would be two parts, so Volume One feels like a complete, epic movie on its own, with a really satisfying ending.
So, Ross Duffer’s talking about the final season like it’s two parts mashed into one – Volumes 2 and 3, apparently. Honestly, it’s a little confusing! But one thing’s for sure: everyone’s going to be buzzing about how Stranger Things ends as we head into New Year’s Eve. It looks like they’re really aiming for a spectacular finale, and I, for one, am ready for it.
