What Happened to Vickie in Stranger Things Season 5? Netflix’s Big Finale Leaves Fans Confused

Fans of the show Stranger Things are wondering what became of Vickie after she seemingly vanished in the final episode.

Fans are confused and upset that Vickie, played by Amybeth McNulty, isn’t shown in the final scenes of the show, despite being a major character in the episodes leading up to the last battle with Vecna. Viewers on platforms like Twitter have expressed frustration that the series didn’t reveal what happened to her after the fight, unlike with the other main characters.

Vickie Dunne was introduced in the first episode of Stranger Things Season 4, “Chapter One: The Hellfire Club,” and quickly became a potential love interest for Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke). They eventually started dating between seasons 4 and 5. When Vickie learned about the Upside Down and the creatures within, she initially thought Robin was using drugs, but soon discovered the truth and joined the group in their fight against the monsters.

Unlike most other characters who get a final scene, Vickie isn’t shown in any of the closing moments. However, some viewers believe a comment Robin makes about controlling relationships suggests she and Vickie are still together, and Vickie just decided not to come back to Hawkins.

Why the End of Stranger Things Isn’t the End of the Franchise

With the end of Stranger Things, it feels like a significant chapter in Netflix’s history has concluded. However, fans can still look forward to more stories from the world of Hawkins when Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 arrives on Netflix later this year.

This new series takes place between the second and third seasons of Stranger Things and follows familiar characters as they tackle a fresh mystery. The cast includes Brett Gipson as the voice of Jim Hopper, along with Luca Diaz as Mike, Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Elisha Williams as Lucas, Ben Plessala as Will, and Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max.

Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of Stranger Things, will remain involved in the new animated series as executive producers. In August 2025, the Duffer Brothers expressed their excitement about partnering with Paramount, stating they were “thrilled to be joining the family.”

As a critic, I always appreciate seeing creative partnerships that work, and the Duffer Brothers recently shared a lovely sentiment about Cindy Holland and Matt Thunell. They reminisced about how these two were early believers in their vision – that quirky little script that ultimately became Stranger Things. Apparently, Holland and Thunell took a real gamble on them back in 2015, and now they’re doing it again. The Duffer Brothers are clearly thrilled to be continuing this collaboration and creating more stories with them, and honestly, that kind of loyalty and trust is refreshing to see in this industry.

Stranger Things is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
