Wednesday’s Attempt to Control Tyler In Season 2 Proved to Be Unfruitful – But That Hasn’t Stopped the Fanbase from Speculating About Their Season 3 Relationship

As a devoted film enthusiast, I must admit that the power play against Tyler Galpin in ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 didn’t quite pan out as anticipated. But fervent admirers like myself are keeping fingers crossed for a reconciliation between these two in Season 3. Initially, Tyler seemed to be Wednesday’s romantic interest, but by the end of Season 1, we learned he was secretly a Hyde sent by Marilyn Thornhill with orders to eliminate her, no matter the cost. Enid Sinclair managed to rescue her pal from this dire situation, yet Tyler’s animosity towards Wednesday runs far deeper than one might think – his resentment stems from believing the Addams family is responsible for his mother’s demise.

In the second season, part 1 of a Netflix show, Wednesday and Tyler once again had a confrontation. This led to Wednesday suffering a life-threatening situation when he was violently expelled from Willow Hill. The following half of the season, part 2, focused on Wednesday’s pursuit of retribution against Tyler.

Does Wednesday Control Tyler at Any Point In Season 2?

In Season 2, Wednesday aims to dominate Tyler and gain control over him as her master, a strategy she believes will protect her friend Enid from harm at his hands. This objective is layered with her desire for revenge against him, seeking to halt his murderous rampage following his escape from Willow Hill. As Wednesday herself states, “This is the only means to get Tyler back in his cage.

In Episode 4, Tyler took Marilyn Thornhill’s life, his former master. Killing their master is essentially the last act of a Hyde before they face their inevitable downfall. Unfortunately, this outcome is more severe for male Hydes as they can’t live without a master for long.

On Wednesday, part of the strategy involves employing Thornhill’s “organic chemistry formula” to concoct a control-inducing serum for Tyler. To make this possible, Wednesday employs Enid as an attraction to draw Tyler out of his concealed location. Meanwhile, the reunion Nightshades serve as a diversion, allowing Wednesday to administer the serum discreetly.

Instead, Wednesday’s plan did not yield any results as it was interrupted by the unexpected arrival of Francoise Galpin, who was previously freed by her during Episode 4.

In the end, Morticia Addams, Wednesday’s mother, who appeared distinctly altered in Season 2, struck a bargain with Francoise to oversee her son and depart from Jericho for good.

Morticia said, “Francoise promised to keep Tyler in check, and they’ll never return to Jericho again.

Wednesday: “And you believe the words of a Hyde?”

Morticia: “I believe the word of a mother.”

Although Wednesday’s strategy against Tyler failed, her unexpected vision concerning Enid’s demise provided a compelling motive to postpone her vendetta against him temporarily. However, Wednesday emphasized that her plan could have succeeded if not for Francoise’s interference.

My carefully laid-out plans were running smoothly, much like a well-oiled Swiss watch. However, everything came to a halt when Hyde abruptly appeared and shattered the watch.

In the gripping Season 2, Episode 6, I found myself once more in the company of Wednesday and Tyler, but this time around, things were far from ordinary. You see, Wednesday, in an unexpected twist, had swapped bodies with Enid! This fascinating turn of events set the stage for a fresh confrontation between these long-standing adversaries. In her new form as Enid, Wednesday was able to tap into her inner beast and engage Tyler in a fierce, physical altercation, making this showdown truly one-of-a-kind.

In the final episode of Season 2 of “Wednesday”, following her failed plan against Tyler, Wednesday did not try to dominate him anymore. However, an important event transpired between them instead.

It became clear over time that Francoise and her brother Isaac Night, also known as Slurp the zombie, had a secret intention: they aimed to help Tyler overcome his Hyde ability, despite his resistance. Their intricate scheme required Pugsley Addams to provide power for the machine, thus setting the stage for Wednesday to intervene and rescue her brother.

On Wednesday, Tyler was located when he was at his weakest point, and surprisingly, he pleaded with her to end his life. In an unexpected turn of events, Wednesday chose mercy over brutality and freed him from his bonds instead. However, this action raises questions as it contradicts her previous assertion that Tyler is beyond redemption. This decision could potentially have consequences in Season 3.

In a conversation with TUDUM, Miles Millar, a co-creator of Wednesday, expressed his belief that Wednesday herself isn’t clear about the reason behind her actions at the beginning.

It seems uncertain to me as to what specifically motivated her for that action. However, there are instances where Wednesday, someone known for being decisive, behaves impulsively instead.

In another interpretation, saving Tyler might have been Wednesday’s tactic to divert Isaac and Francoise’s attention away from Pugsley, yet there’s a much more profound significance hidden beneath that. Through the course of Season 2, however, Wednesday failed to assert control over Tyler at any given moment. Yet it’s possible she is working towards a longer-term goal.

Will Wednesday Become Tyler’s Master?

Despite Wednesday not being able to assert control over Tyler as initially planned, certain enthusiasts speculate that she may yet develop into his dominating figure in time. It is also possible that this dynamic could evolve into a romantic connection in the future.

According to @lupainthenorth’s observation on X, sparing Tyler on Wednesday allowed him to recognize that she was the one who genuinely stood by him. Her persistent desire to control him eventually transformed into a decision to let him go freely.

When Tyler understood that, in spite of everything, Wednesday was the only one who truly stood by him, and he recognized that her initial desire to dominate him transformed into a decision to liberate him, it became clear that the invisible bond between them was still very much present and far from dissolved.

In a strategic sense or not, fans are interpreting this interaction between Tyler and Wednesday as significant because they believe Tyler might have recognized Wednesday as his true ally, whether she acknowledges it or not. On the other hand, Wednesday’s intent to restrain or control Tyler seems to be evolving among fans, with a growing belief that she is shifting towards granting him more freedom. This change in attitude is thought to have been solidified after she rescued him.

It’s plausible that by rescuing Tyler, she may subtly communicate to him that he is indebted to her, a debt that could become significant in future events. Wednesday has a talent for manipulation and always thinks ahead. Saving Tyler might be a strategic move on her part, aiming to persuade him to serve as her loyal subject in Season 3, since it’s the only means to protect both him and those close to him.

It’s intriguing to note that after Principal Weems (who temporarily took over as her guide following her death and was then succeeded by the ominous Principal Dort) pointed out to Wednesday, she harbors feelings for Tyler. She has been suppressing these emotions. By choosing to save Tyler rather than harm him, it’s evident that Wednesday still holds some deep affection or conflicting emotions towards him, which could significantly impact their relationship in Season 3.

Regardless if their relationship is romantic or friendly, there’s a strong connection that continues to endure between them, and it remains unbroken. Instead of striving to be his superior, Wednesday might choose to work alongside Tyler. By doing so, he may gradually come to accept her as his future leader, which could ultimately help him survive.
