Recently, Hunter Doohan opened up about the reasons behind Tyler’s survival in the final episode of ‘Wednesday’ season 2, shedding light on potential developments in his character’s future.
In the last episode, Wednesday was given the opportunity to murder Tyler following his mother and uncle’s deceitful manipulation, resulting in Pugsley’s sacrifice during a process. However, instead of ending Tyler’s life, Wednesday broke free by hitting his restraints with an axe and declared, “I missed.” Doohan discussed this event in a recent interview.
Hunter Doohan reveals why Tyler was saved in Wednesday Season 2
In simpler terms, Doohan told RadioTimes.com that the scene showcased the intricate dynamic between Wednesday and Tyler. Initially, their relationship seemed to be heading towards romance, but it eventually transformed into a competitive one.
As a film enthusiast, I’d put it this way: “Throughout the entire show, their dynamic was captivating, and surprisingly, instead of taking his life to conclude the story, she chose to free him, and surprisingly, they ended up helping each other. Jenna Ortega, with her abundance of creative ideas, even came up with the final improvised line on her own. It was truly inspiring to witness such an original and powerful performance.
Tyler’s freedom brought about some challenges, given the series’ background. Hydes require a master to live, and with Francoise deceased, his survival became precarious. Doohan pointed out that “In essence, when we observe him at the end, he realizes he’s going to perish. He doesn’t have a master anymore. He’s lost all optimism. However, there’s a tiny spark of hope that emerges from Capri’s character.
In simpler terms, hope emerged when Billie Piper’s character, Isadora Capri (previously known as Hyde), disclosed the existence of Hydes that don’t require masters. Along with Capri, Tyler embarked on a mission to find this group, potentially offering him a solution for his future. Regarding Season 3, actor Hunter Doohan expressed his desire for Tyler to gain control but also mentioned that he would continue to grapple with the moral complexities between Hyde and human within himself, suggesting that we have yet to see Tyler fully in command.
Wednesday Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Netflix.
