It’s been almost three years since Ali Wong and Steven Yeun starred in the Netflix dark comedy, Beef. Originally intended as a one-season series from A24, the show became a huge hit on Netflix in 2023, winning many awards. Because of its popularity, the creator, Lee Sung Jin, has decided to continue the show as an anthology series, and details about the new season are now being revealed.
Now that Season 2 of Beef is scheduled to premiere on Netflix this spring in 2026, creator Lee Sung Jin has revealed what sparked the story. Those following updates on the new season will likely already have an idea of what to expect. Season 2 will center around three couples, each from a different generation, all connected through a prestigious country club in Southern California. Lee Sung Jin shared these details with Tudum.
From the beginning, the plan for Beef was to present it as a series of standalone stories. We aimed for a more subtle, simmering tension this season – focusing on the way people quietly bottle up their anger, especially at work.
Okay, so the new season is really interesting. We’ve got this Gen Z couple – Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny are fantastic as these country club employees – who accidentally overhear a massive fight between their bosses, played by Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan. They see an opportunity and, let’s just say, things get complicated when they try to use the recording to their advantage. Isaac and Mulligan, by the way, were the couple we loved (and cringed at!) in Beef Season 1. The creator, Lee, told Vanity Fair he intentionally wanted to focus on couples from different generations this season, and that’s definitely playing out in a really compelling way.
I began thinking a lot about how different generations view love. As time goes on, you realize that when you were younger, you swore you wouldn’t end up like your parents or grandparents. But we often find ourselves facing the same challenges. Will we end up repeating the same errors as those who came before us?
Before the second season of Beef was cast, Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway were considered for the leading roles. It’s notable that both actors previously starred together in Brokeback Mountain and Love, and Other Drugs. Similarly, Steven Yeun and Ali Wong had worked together twice before, appearing in both Inside Llewyn Davis and Drive.
The show’s creator believes the characters’ detailed histories will make them more relatable and believable. Josh and Lindsay will portray a couple who have been together for a long time and are now facing the challenges of getting older and realizing life hasn’t turned out as they planned.

Okay, so I’m super excited for Season 2 of Beef, and I just learned about a new couple who are going to be a big part of the story! They’re a wealthy Korean couple who are buying up the country club. We don’t know who is playing them yet, but we do know the four Korean actors who are joining the cast. It’s going to be amazing to see Youn Yuh-jung (you might know her from Minari) as Chairwoman Park, and Song Kang-ho (Parasite!) playing Dr. Kim. Plus, Seoyeon Jang from Butterfly is playing Eunice, and the musician BM is going to be Woosh! I can’t wait!
The new storyline for the Korean couple is drawn from Steven Yeun’s own experiences gaining acceptance into higher social circles after the success of Beef. The season will follow a younger couple who resort to blackmail against their boss, and explore themes of subtle conflict and love – promising another compelling season of Beef for viewers to enjoy and discuss.
You can watch Season 1 of Beef on Netflix, and Season 2 will be available on the streaming service starting April 16th.
