Marvel Studios recently released a video celebrating some of its most famous villains, showcasing their biggest moments from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over the past 17 years, Marvel has introduced many iconic villains to audiences in theaters and on TV, and some fans are hoping to see a few of them return.
Marvel Entertainment released an 8-minute, 33-second video on YouTube called “Villains of the MCU | Compilation.” The video highlights six of the most memorable villains from the first five phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, showcasing a key scene for each one to give fans a look back at their best moments.
6 Villains Featured in New Marvel Studios Compilation Video
Thanos

Thanos is arguably the most memorable villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially as the central antagonist of the Infinity Saga. He first appeared briefly in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and in post-credit scenes for The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, before taking center stage as the primary villain in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), powerfully portrayed by Josh Brolin.
In this scene, Thanos uses the Time Stone to revive Vision after taking the Mind Stone, completing the Infinity Gauntlet. He then snaps his fingers, instantly eliminating half of all life in the galaxy and leaving the Avengers defeated and unsure of how to proceed.
Thanos remains an important figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there’s a possibility he could show up in future Avengers films.
Ultron

In the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron, acclaimed actor James Spader voiced Ultron, a villainous robot. Ultron was created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner as a global peacekeeping initiative, but he quickly turned against humankind. Believing people were the biggest danger to peace, he attempted to destroy the world.
This scene happens soon after Ultron first attacks the Avengers at their tower. Thor manages to destroy his initial body, but Ultron isn’t defeated for good – he goes on to create a new one and spread his influence. The scene ends with the Avengers finally defeating him in Sokovia, with the newly created Vision seemingly destroying Ultron’s last body after the city is destroyed.
The villain Ultron will be back in a new movie called VisionQuest, which is scheduled for release in 2026. This will continue his story after more than ten years since he was last seen in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
Scarlet Witch

Elizabeth Olsen has played Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over ten years. In addition to voice work in animated series like What If…? and Marvel Zombies, she’s appeared in seven live-action Marvel films and shows, most recently in the 2022 movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
In this collection of scenes, Marvel depicted Wanda attacking Kamar-Taj while trying to capture America Chavez. She reveals to Doctor Strange that she’s searching for a universe where she can reunite with her sons. Following a huge fight with Strange and America, the movie concludes with Wanda understanding her mistakes and tragically being buried under the rubble of Mount Wundagore, leading fans to believe she has died.
Although fans anticipate Wanda Maximoff will appear in one or both of the upcoming Avengers films, Elizabeth Olsen currently doesn’t have an official Marvel project scheduled.
Namor the Sub-Mariner

After years of debate over who owned the rights to the character, Namor the Sub-Mariner finally appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2022 film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Tenoch Huerta portrayed Namor, marking the character’s first live-action role, and played the main villain, leading the underwater nation of Talokan in a war against Wakanda.
The most heartbreaking moment in the film comes when Namor attacks the Wakandan palace, tragically killing Queen Ramonda. He then threatens Shuri with a future return. Following a fierce fight between them, Namor and Shuri reach an agreement, establishing an alliance between Talokan and Wakanda.
Eva Huerta will be back in the 2026 film Avengers: Doomsday, joining forces with many other heroes to fight Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
Red Skull

Early in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hugo Weaving portrayed Johann Schmidt, better known as the Red Skull. He first appeared in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger, and surprisingly returned after his character’s death in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame as the Keeper of the Soul Stone. Ross Marquand took on the role for those later appearances.
In this scene, Schmidt has his first direct fight with Steve Rogers, ultimately tearing off a mask to reveal his true, skull-like face. Though he got away at that moment, the film concludes with him being sent to Vormir, still possessing the Tesseract – the Space Stone – after a final showdown with Captain America.
Hela

Cate Blanchett became part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2017, playing Hela, the Goddess of Death, in Thor: Ragnarok. Although she’s only appeared in one MCU film (and an episode of What If…?), she made a powerful impression as Thor’s half-sister and a claimant to the throne of Asgard.
The clip showcases her initial encounter with Thor and Loki, where she effortlessly lifts and breaks Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer, before traveling to Asgard and defeating the Warriors Three. Although Asgard was destroyed by Surtur at the end of the film, along with what appeared to be Hela, she is generally believed to be deceased.
