Following the conclusion of the show on AMC, the series continued through various spinoffs featuring beloved characters. Fans have long wished for a large-scale event, similar to Avengers: Endgame, that would reunite all the surviving characters, and now Robert Kirkman has shared his thoughts on the possibility.
Those familiar with the series will remember that Kirkman was the creator of the comic book that inspired the AMC hit, The Walking Dead. He’s remained a key behind-the-scenes figure as an executive producer on the show and its various spin-offs. Recently, Kirkman addressed rumors about a potential combination of the spin-off series in an interview. He stated that while there aren’t any definite plans for a merged show right now, he hasn’t dismissed the idea and it could still happen in the future.
The Rumored Spinoff Isn’t Happening At This Time
We’d all love to reunite the characters at some point. Right now, everyone is focused on their own stories and spin-offs, which has naturally separated them. However, there are no current plans to bring them back together. It would be a huge challenge to coordinate everyone’s schedules, so it might not happen at all, or it could happen down the line. I just don’t know for sure at this moment.
Earlier Walking Dead spin-offs, like Fear the Walking Dead, focused on entirely new characters and their stories. After the original series finished in 2022, new shows began featuring characters fans already knew. Norman Reedus returned as Daryl Dixon and Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan rejoined Lauren Cohan as Maggie for Dead City, which takes place in New York. Daryl Dixon will end after its fourth season, and Dead City is getting a third season, though it’s unclear if that will be the show’s finale.
Rick and Michonne Reunited for The Ones Who Live
In 2024, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) returned in a six-episode miniseries. This show was initially planned as a series of three movies but was later changed. Although fans enjoyed it, the show was always intended to have a final ending, so there weren’t any plans for additional episodes. Now that The Ones Who Live has finished, Daryl Dixon is ending, and the fate of Dead City after its third season is unclear, it’s not surprising that people are hoping for a new spinoff similar to Endgame that brings together all the surviving characters from the series.
While AMC hasn’t announced exact release dates, both Daryl Dixon Season 4 and Dead City Season 3 are anticipated to premiere in 2026.
