As the 34th season of “Dancing with the Stars” draws near in the 2025 television lineup, excitement for fresh episodes seems to be escalating. After much buzz regarding who will grace the ballroom this time around, DWTS has finally unveiled the new celebrity contenders. Furthermore, most of the professionals remain the same, with Gleb Savchenko still on board despite reports suggesting his dismissal and subsequent reinstatement. Regrettably, Sasha Farber will not be returning, and now Val Chmerkovskiy is sharing his thoughts on this matter.
In 2012, Farber made his debut in the dance competition show as part of Season 14’s troupe. He moved up to become a professional dancer for Season 17, but spent the next four seasons back with the troupe. He returned as a pro for Season 22 and has remained on the show since. With the addition of Eras Tour dancer Jan Ravnik for the upcoming season, it’s likely that one professional will be leaving. While pros have come and gone in DWT before, this is nothing out of the ordinary. As Chmerkovskiy, a three-time Mirrorball champion, put it to Us Weekly, it’s just part of the game.
It’s not personal. It’s the nature of this business.
Despite the fact that Sasha Farber never won the Mirrorball Trophy during his 12-year tenure on the show, he still managed to create some memorable moments. One of Farber’s standout performances occurred during Season 31 when he was partnered with actress Selma Blair. Although Blair had to withdraw due to her multiple sclerosis complications, their final dance together was touching. Furthermore, Farber shared many enjoyable moments with his fellow dancers, and Chmerkovskiy already misses him dearly.
So it definitely hurts. Breakups happen in life.
Although Farber may no longer be a part of Dancing With the Stars, I’m still hoping this separation isn’t permanent. Many former professionals have kept in touch with the current ones, and some series alums have even made appearances in the audience. Given his schedule, it’s possible that Farber could join them as well. Ideally, we’d love to see him return as a professional dancer in future seasons.

Fans of “Dancing with the Stars” can stream all the show’s episodes on Disney+ for just $9.99 a month, opting for the ad-supported plan. Alternatively, you could choose to watch ad-free by paying $15.99 a month or save 16% by committing to a full year’s subscription at $159.99. Check out the deal here!
Discussing the returning contestants, Farber might not be around this time, yet a beloved figure is rejoining the competition. Mark Ballas, who bagged Season 31 victory with Charli D’Amelio and subsequently left, is set to make a comeback in the upcoming season, partnered with Whitney Leavitt from “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” Previously serving as a guest judge last season and performing an Argentine tango with Derek Hough, Ballas returns to the ballroom. Frankly speaking, I’m thrilled to see him back.
The upcoming Season 34 of “Dancing with the Stars” boasts a talented lineup, so even though Sasha Farber won’t be there, there’s still lots of skill to look forward to. The new season kicks off on Tuesday, September 16 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. You can also stream episodes if you have a Disney+ subscription.
