As a total K-drama fanatic, I’ve seen a lot of romantic comedies, but
As a huge K-drama fan, I’ve noticed there’s a lot out there, but certain types really stand out. You can find amazing supernatural, mystery, and even horror shows, but honestly, romance is king. Netflix has jumped on this trend, bringing in tons of romantic K-dramas, but it felt like some viewers were being overlooked lately. That’s why I’m so excited about their newest addition, True Beauty – it feels like exactly what was missing!
True Beauty Was Added To Netflix On December 11
Netflix Has Been Missing A Solid Teen Romance
As a huge K-drama fan, I’ve noticed that most of what Netflix offers isn’t actually new – it’s a lot of fantastic shows that originally aired on South Korean channels like tvN and SBS. But honestly, it’s been amazing! Netflix has given these older series a second life, and I’ve seen so many people discovering them for the first time. It’s especially cool for newer fans like myself to finally be able to experience some of those classic K-drama gems.
Netflix has added a lot of popular Korean dramas recently, including romantic shows like The Secret Life of My Secretary and legal mysteries such as Suspicious Partner. However, the platform is lacking in teen romance K-dramas. While classics like Boys Over Flowers and A Love So Beautiful are available, fans who enjoy young love stories don’t have many choices on Netflix.
The arrival of True Beauty on Netflix in December 2025 is a significant event for fans. This popular K-drama, originally a webtoon, tells the story of Lim Ju-kyung (played by Moon Ga-young), who overcame a difficult childhood filled with bullying by mastering makeup. When she moves to a new school, she starts over, presenting herself as a traditionally beautiful girl.
I quickly discovered that becoming popular comes with its own drama! As the ‘it’ girl at Saebom High, I found myself totally stuck in the middle of a rivalry between Lee Su-ho and Han Seo-jun – they were definitely giving off frenemy vibes. But it wasn’t all bad; for the first time, I actually made some really close friends, like Kang Su-jin and Choi Soo-ah. It was a wild ride, balancing the popularity with all the new relationships!
True Beauty Is One Of The Best K-Dramas Of The Decade
It Goes Far Deeper Than Surface-Level Storylines
Despite appearances, the K-drama True Beauty explores surprisingly complex themes. The main character, Lim Ju-kyung, struggles with her identity, torn between staying true to herself and being accepted by others. While she genuinely loves makeup, it’s rooted in the deep hurt she experienced from being teased throughout her life.
Lee Su-ho, the main character, is more than just a handsome face. He actually falls for Lim Ju-kyung when she’s not wearing makeup and initially doesn’t like how she presents herself at school. Once he discovers she lives a double life, he constantly encourages her to be herself and assures her that he thinks she’s beautiful with or without makeup.
Lee Su-ho and Lim Ju-kyung are often considered one of the greatest K-drama couples, and their connection goes beyond a typical teenage romance. They truly helped each other grow as people – Su-ho learned to heal from a difficult past, and Ju-kyung discovered how to love herself for who she is, regardless of what others think.
Beyond its complex characters, surprising villain, and engaging story, the drama doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects. True Beauty explores important real-world issues like bullying, suicide, self-worth, and the dark side of the music industry, but handles them realistically. This makes True Beauty a captivating and complete drama.
What Netflix’s Acquisition Means For True Beauty
The 2020 Hit Could Be Due For An Early Resurgence
The K-drama True Beauty has received widespread praise both in Korea and around the world, but many viewers in North America are just discovering it now. Before Netflix added the show, it was hard to find unless you subscribed to streaming services that focus on Asian content, like Viki. Now, True Beauty is much easier to watch.
As True Beauty becomes more popular on Netflix, it could lead to increased interest in the careers of its stars. Fans disappointed with how Han Seo-jun’s character ended might start watching other projects starring Hwang In-youp, like his lead role in Family by Choice. Likewise, Moon Ga-young and Cha Eun-woo could also see a boost in attention thanks to renewed interest in True Beauty.
Since appearing in True Beauty, both Cha Eun-woo and Moon Ga-young have continued to act, and their recent work is definitely worth checking out. Cha Eun-woo has taken on roles in both romantic dramas like A Good Day to Be a Dog and thrillers such as Wonderful World. Moon Ga-young has also been busy, starring in the romance My Dearest Nemesis and the legal drama Law and the City.
Many fans consider True Beauty to be one of Moon Ga-young and Cha Eun-woo’s best dramas, and now that it’s available on Netflix, even more people will likely discover it. Whether you’re new to K-dramas or a longtime fan, having True Beauty on Netflix is a big win – it’s perfect for both newcomers and those looking for a heartwarming re-watch.
