Warning: SPOILERS for Tron: Ares are ahead!
As a big fan, I was so excited to see Tron back in theaters after all these years! It’s a shame Tron: Ares isn’t doing amazingly well at the box office, but I really think it sets things up for another film down the line. What especially got me hyped was a fantastic callback to the original Tron movie. I’m really glad I finally watched the 1982 film before seeing Ares – it made the experience that much better!
Look, a fourth *Tron* movie would be exciting on its own, but honestly, I’m way more invested in a storyline that *Tron: Ares* started, and that connects back to *Tron: Legacy* from 2010. It’s not even about finding out what happened to Sam and Quorra, though I definitely want to know that too! What’s *really* got me hooked is that mid-credits scene in *Ares* – that’s the thread I’m desperate to see resolved.
Julian Dillinger Gets A Familiar Upgrade
Julian Dillinger was in serious trouble as filming on *Tron: Ares* ended. His plan to kidnap Eve Kim and steal the Permanence Code failed because Ajay, Seth, and Erin disabled the Dillinger Systems mainframe, which also permanently deactivated Athena after her time limit. Shortly after, the police surrounded Dillinger’s headquarters, knowing he was responsible for the city’s destruction and would likely be held accountable for his mother’s death as well.

Facing imprisonment, Evan Peters’ character chose to use a powerful laser to transport himself to the remains of the Dillinger Grid. Once there, he discovered an identity disk that looked strangely familiar. The moment he touched it, he began to change. This disk originally belonged to Sark, a program from the first *Tron* movie who served the Master Control Program. It was created by Julian’s grandfather, Edward Dillinger Sr., and remarkably, the actor David Warner played all three of these roles: Sark, Edward Dillinger Sr., and the MCP.
Now that Julian has become the new Sark, he’ll likely gain the ability to fix the Dillinger Systems Grid. However, with ENCOM using the Permanence Code for good, he’ll need a new purpose. Even if he escapes The Grid, he’ll still be a wanted criminal. The big question is whether Sark’s power could extend into the real world, or if Julian will remain trapped as a digital villain. I’m eager to see how this unfolds and find out the answers.

What Does The Permanence Code Mean For Quorra?
The ending of *Tron: Legacy* showed Quorra joining Sam Flynn in the real world, with the implication they’d make a big impact. However, *Tron: Ares* reveals they vanished after Sam left his job at ENCOM, prompting a search for them throughout the new film. While it’s good to finally get answers about their disappearance, I’m more interested in understanding what the Permanence Code means for Quorra and whether it affects her ability to exist in the real world.

While ‘Tron: Ares’ might not be a top contender for movie of the year, there’s one scene that makes it worth experiencing in a cinema.
Greta Lee shared a funny story about texting with Brie Larson and preparing for her role in *Tron: Ares*. She revealed that she jokingly suggested to the filmmakers that she and Larson have a fight scene with ripped clothing, after working with a Marvel trainer to get in shape for the movie.
Quorra appeared healthy when she transitioned from the digital world of *Tron: Legacy* to reality, and a significant amount of time—well over 29 minutes—elapsed before she experienced a sunrise. This raises the question of how she maintains her stability without the Permanence Code. Perhaps, as an ISO program, she isn’t bound by the same limitations as typical programs like Ares and Athena. Alternatively, the unique structure of the *Legacy* grid itself might be the key.
Could the Permanence Code be affecting Quorra, but just over a longer period of time? We see a glimpse of an older Quorra in *Tron: Ares*, and she appears unwell. Perhaps living without the code is slowly harming her, which would make the search for her and Sam even more critical.
If Jeff Bridges and Garrett Hedlund were willing to return as their characters, that continuing storyline would be the biggest reason I’d want to see *Tron 4*. Julian Dillinger as a new version of Sark would be a welcome addition, too. We’ll keep you updated here at TopMob if a fourth movie gets made.
