More than a decade ago, a show brought back a well-known slogan from one of its earlier versions for a new cartoon series. Now, we’re starting to see pictures of toys that will be released alongside that show.
The 2015 Transformers series, Robots in Disguise, was intended to have a line of spin-off toys called Construct-Bots. Although these toys never hit shelves alongside the show, designs for them existed. Recently, images of those potential toys have surfaced, reminding fans of the ‘Aligned Continuity’ cartoon universe.
New Renders Reveal Unmade Transformers: Robots in Disguise ‘Construct-Bots’ Toys

The Transformers: Construct-Bots line was a unique series of action figures. They combined the play patterns of traditional Transformers with the building aspects of model kits and toys like LEGO. By 2015, the line mostly featured characters from the original Transformers Generation 1, as well as those from the live-action Transformers movies. There were also Construct-Bots toys based on characters from Transformers: Prime, the first animated series in a connected storyline.
Despite initial plans and a shared name with an older anime series, the Transformers: Robots in Disguise sequel didn’t end up releasing the planned toys. There were supposed to be two collections of these toys, each focusing on a couple of specific Autobot characters.
The initial set of Construct-Bots toys for Transformers: Robots in Disguise included Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, and Sideswipe as Autobots, and Steeljaw as a Decepticon. These toys transformed into versions of their vehicles seen in the cartoon, and each one came with a sword or other melee weapon instead of a gun. A second wave of toys featured new versions of Sideswipe and Bumblebee, plus the Decepticons Terrashock and Thunderhoof. These figures also used melee weapons – like hammers and smaller blades – to make them distinct from the first set of Autobots and Decepticons.
These toys were originally planned for release more than ten years ago, but are now finally official. Despite the long delay, the designs are a real achievement for @canvasdigitalstudios and a welcome addition to the brand’s artistic legacy.
