The show Tracker is shaking things up as Season 3 comes to a close. Jensen Ackles returns as Russell Shaw, teaming up with his on-screen brother, Colter, played by Justin Hartley, for a unique case that changes how the show usually works. Tracker has been a popular drama on network TV for three seasons and has already been renewed for a fourth season, set to air in 2026-2027.
Now that CBS’s new drama, Marshals—a spin-off of Yellowstone—has become the most-watched show on television, attracting 26.5 million viewers in its first month, Tracker is trying new approaches to keep audiences engaged. While Tracker was previously the most popular show, Marshals’ success suggests the series is losing some of its appeal.
Tracker Season 3 Breaks Colter’s Formula In Episode 21, “Chrono Stasis”
Okay, so the latest episode of Tracker really threw me for a loop! Usually, the show kicks off with Colter getting pulled into some complex case, but this time, it started with a pretty straightforward rescue. Instead of a mystery unfolding right away, we see him finding a teenager who’s crashed his motorcycle in the woods. It was a nice change of pace, a real departure from the usual formula, and honestly, a refreshing way to begin the episode.
It doesn’t take long to understand why Season 3 of Tracker breaks from its usual format. Colter returns to his trailer to find his brother, Russell, already there, grilling and enjoying music, and immediately asks for a beer. After a brief catch-up, Colter presses Russell about why he came, and Russell reveals he’s located Dr. Jukic, played by Jeri Ryan.
Colter discovers Dr. Jukic while searching for Buck Avery (Michael O’Neill), a name from his father’s files. Avery reluctantly reveals that Ashton Shaw (Lee Tergesen) was involved with a group of contractors who rented land for a hidden research operation.
Avery shares with Colter that a secret lab used to be located near his childhood home in Alaska, explaining it was funded by DARPA and linked to US military operations. Later, in Season 3, Episode 21 of Tracker, Colter uncovers more details about the institute after Avery provides the name of Serena Jukic, who is then located by Russell.
In the next-to-last episode of Tracker Season 3, the Shaw brothers locate Dr. Jukic, who explains the work of her previous employer, the Chrono Stasis Institute. Her information confirms that the show is heading in a supernatural direction, revealing the institute studied people with exceptional abilities – like astral projection and remote viewing – by focusing on genetic factors linked to savant syndrome.
What To Expect From Tracker Season 3’s Finale
Colter and Russell learn the Chrono Stasis Institute has been hiding Danny Kellerman, a boy they believed died years ago. They begin a unique search for him, following leads from Dr. Jukic’s past work. This investigation leads them to the project’s new facility, where the Shaw brothers are already operating undercover.
The Shaw brothers’ attempt to sneak into the highly secure facility ruins Colter’s disguise. Even though Shaw claims he’s there to assist Danny, Kellerman refuses to let him go and activates a device that will summon guards. Just as Danny raises the alarm, the episode ends with a “To Be Continued…” message, promising a thrilling conclusion to Season 3.
Colter and Russell will likely manage to escape their current predicament, and this could expose more details about their father’s deteriorating state. Meanwhile, it’s been revealed that Otto Waldron, a friend of their mother Mary Dove, was responsible for Ashton Shaw’s death, but the full story behind Shaw’s demise remains a mystery.
Dr. Jukic is starting to reveal what happened to Ashon Shaw. The Chrono Stasis Institute’s use of children in the project, including Danny, deeply upset Colter’s father, who attempted to stop the program. Serena told the Shaw brothers that Ashon Shaw’s personal information was leaked online, which ruined his reputation.
CBS’s Tracker Season 3 is evolving into a show reminiscent of The X-Files, moving beyond simple tracking to investigate unusual beliefs about human potential and supernatural occurrences, as seen in the episode “Chrono Stasis.” This exploration of the strange and unexplained might be the key for Colter and Russell to finally uncover the truth behind their father’s death.
